Vacation/Epic Poem pt. 1

Jul 29, 2007 00:38

So, I got back from Chicago at around 4:00 and finished Harry Potter 7 shortly thereafter.

oh... wait...

I guess very few of you even know I left town. Well, on Monday I went to Busch Gardens with miei genitori. Then, we caught a 1:00pm flight to Chicago on Tuesday. The purpose of the trip was, in its very essence, so that I could tour DePaul University. But, this was also a general vacation. On Tuesday night, we walked down the Magnificent Mile, which is like the Madison Avenue of Chicago, and met one of my mom's employees at a sky-lounge. Then, it was Wednesday! We got up early and took the L to Lincoln Park (where DePaul is). Turns, out its a Catholic, Vincentian school, but it was actually pretty cool despite that. I actually got taken on a tour of the Theatre School as well as the full tour, which was nice. I saw their classrooms, black box theater, make-up room, costume closet, rehearsal spaces, and everything except the mainstage theater, which is across town. It was a nice place; reminded me of St. Catherine's. After the tour we took an architectural river cruise, which was awesome. Wednesday night, we saw a Second City show. That blew my mind. It was improv and sketch comedy and pure wholesome beauty all rolled into one. On, Thursday we went to the Art Institute of Chicago and then a taping of "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!". Friday was spent on the Shedd Aquarium, deep dish pizza, and the Simpsons Movie (praise the lord). On Saturday, we got up, ate breakfast, and took the L out to O'hare airport.

Ok, so, now you've been filled in about my vacation. It's time, unfortunately for the first installment of the epic poem thing that's been sitting in my pocket for more than a month. I guess I'll do this a couple pages per part, so I don't have to type too much all at once. That means there will be 7 parts, as of right now.

Disclaimer: not all things are as they appear. first person (me, I, etc.) is always me. second person (you) refers to different people throughout. third person (he, she, them, etc.) refers to different people throughout.

I love How You Hate Me

You cross my path and smile.
It cuts me deep.
It slices me
To the core.
I can't keep grinning forever.
I can't keep bearing it forever.

But, I need your smile.
It gives me hope.
And without it,
I have nothing.

So, I'll take it all on the chin,
Just for the promise of something better
And the dream of flying
With you again.

Because a man is not a camel.
This feeling is habit forming.
I stayed up 'til two,
With you in my head.
And when I could finally sleep,
You pervaded my dreams.

I closed the brand new windows
Just in time.
Thunder cracked,
And rain fell in sheets.
Leaves glistened,
And pools of water
Were called up
From beneath the mud.

I watched steam rise
From the weather-beaten asphalt
And I thought of the moon,
Rising above the horizon
To taunt me on the rock.

Long car rides
Breed only mist and silence.
Long, silent car rides
Breed only discord.

But how it breaks my heart
To watch you suffer
In silence.
