Synagogue

So, I haven't really said anything of any worth in a long time. Well, I guess here goes. I went to services tonight for the first time in a very long time. Everything is different. I didn't recognize most of the people. The tunes to the music were changed. Even the lighting in the sanctuary is different. The new fluorescent lights really kill the mood if you ask me, which nobody ever does. But, that's beside the point.

Now, I'm usually pretty cynical about religion. I use the fact that I'm Jewish to get away with jokes and make fun of gentiles, but, if you're reading this, then you already know that. At any rate, I have to say, I missed the experience at reading the divine words on the page. It's nice to know that there's something higher out there. And it truly doesn't matter what it is, so long as it is.

Now, after the service, the Israeli emissary to the Richmond JCC gave a presentation on Israeli history. He said he wasn't there for propaganda, but it pretty much was. Don't get me wrong, I believe every word of it. It's the truth. But it was a very biased perspective of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. The bottom line is, it was more accurate than anything on the news. Because, the guy is Israeli. He lives there. He served in the IDF. If anyone in this town knows, then he knows. But I couldn't help the feeling he was waisting his time talking to a bunch of liberal Jews. I really just wish Besan had been there.

In lighter news, I'm working on a longer poem that will probably find its way into a drama IV project. So next year you all can come see some weird, weird plays produced by yours truly.
