2007 Summer Movie Preview

Apr 29, 2007 23:50

Well, it's that time of the year. All the blockbusters are coming soon to a theatre near you. I bought Entertainment Weekly so I could get a full, comprehensive look at what is coming out in the next few months.

Supposedly, there is a lot of speculation going around that this summer may prove to be one of the biggest in box office history. In May, alone, we see Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean 3. That's a lot of sequels in one month. It should prove interesting to see which one ends up on top. As long as it's not Pirates, I don't care either way.

So, I just thought I'd list some films I'm looking forward to, some I haven't decided and others I plan to stay away from at all cost. Feel free to comment. I'd love to know what some of you plan on watching/avoiding.

I put everything under the cut to save your Friends Pages. How nice am I? ;)

MUST SEE:

*The Bourne Ultimatum
I love the Jason Bourne movies. Unlike other current action films, which are full of stupid plot holes and overwhelming CGI effects, these films stay away from that, thanks to director Paul Greengrass. Matt Damon perfectly fits the role and I love how his true identity is only revealed to the audience in pieces. I haven't been disappointed yet and I expect this to be in my top five favourite summer movies of 2007.

*Rescue Dawn
It stars Christian Bale as a soldier in the Vietnam War whose helicopter is shot down, leaving him stranded in the Vietnamese wilderness with fellow officers. It sounds really intriguing and is directed by Werner Herzog.

*Shrek the Third
These movies make me laugh. And I love Mike Myers. It's as simple as that. I loved Rupert Everett as Prince Charming in the last film and I'm so happy that John Krasinski (Jim from The Office)is in it as well.

*Spider-Man 3
Alright. I don't know why I put this under my "must see" list, because it's not one of my priorities. However, I feel myself drawn to these films because I keep hoping they will end up being fantastic and exciting films, instead of the mediocre comic book movies that actually end up being. I would love to see an amazing Spidey movie, but that hasn't happened yet. So, I'll be there, with millions of others, watching this film. But I hope I'm actually pleasantly surprised this time.

UNDECIDED

*28 Weeks Later
I loved 28 Days Later. I adore Danny Boyle and Cillian Murphy is such a fantastic actor. But this film has neither of them, and I'm worried that it's nothing more than a quick cash-grab. Granted, it has Robert Carlyle, who is always excellent, but something doesn't feel right about this one. I need to hear more about it and see more photos/trailers before deciding.

*The Simpsons Movie
I don't really watch the show, but the episodes I've seen have been funny. I'll likely just wait for the DVD on this one.

*Evan Almighty
Steve Carell is funny, but the trailer only looks so-so. Another one I will likely just rent on DVD one day.

*Live Free Or Die Hard
Love the first film and the two sequels aren't terrible. I haven't seen the trailer yet. I think that will make or break this film for me.

*Ocean's 13
Great cast. Al Pacino is one of my favourite actors. And, well, you all know how I feel about Brad Pitt. ;) But I never really liked the first one to begin with and the sequel was terrible. I don't know how I feel about this one yet.

*Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Meh. These films aren't that special. I'll see it eventually (my sister is really into them), but I'm indifferent.

WILL AVOID AT ALL COST!

*Pirates of the Carribbean: At World's End
Please, let this be the last film. I enjoyed Curse of the Black Pearl. I loved Johnny Depp's wonderfully entertaining performance. And who doesn't love Geoffrey Rush? But the second one was repetitive and boooring!!!! Plus, there is only so much terrible acting from Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley that I can take. Hands down, two of the most irritating actors...ever! I'm not watching this one. No way.

*I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
I loathe Adam Sandler. And this movie looks like it will be far more homophobic than funny. It'll be a stinker.
