This weekend I did the following

Jun 10, 2013 11:30

+ I continued my exploration of local parks with walking trails, going to Meadowdale Beach Park. It's a lovely park, nice forest with a stream running by the very wide trail down to the beach, which itself is a nice, long, easy to walk rocky beach. There's also an adorable park ranger's house (the house is adorable; I did not see the ranger to make any judgements on him/her) right there.

But as I started down the trail, I kept thinking, "Wow, this is going to be a challenge to walk back up." Because it was going downhill almost immediately. And kept going down. And down. And, wow, that's a lot of down. And it was challenging, but fortunately it was dry--and they had a lot of little benches around every bend where you could stop and rest, which was very nice.

+ I watched Eight Men Out (as inspired by watching the third part of Ken Burns's Baseball, about the Black Sox). I hadn't seen it in years, so it was lovely to see all the baby actors in it, and in such a good movie.

+ I watched the first episode of this last batch (I don't even know what the seasons are anymore) of The Walking Dead, "The Suicide King." Yes, that aired in February. Yes, I am that far behind. I'm still going to put a cut-tag.

* Since we watched this right after Eight Men Out, it was especially fun to see Michael Rooker then and now. Not sure how Gandil would have fared against Walkers.

* Andrea has been one of those great characters for me: sometimes I like her, sometimes I don't, but she's always been utterly believable to me in her reactions to things. I am about to lay a smackdown on someone, though, because apparently even after finding out her boyfriend has been keeping a zombie head aquarium in a secret romper room; after finding out about the gladiatorial games with Walkers and the living; after finding out he's experimenting on people; after finding out he was keeping her and Michone prisoners; after finding out he kept Glen and Maggie and tortured them; she gets pouty about the latter, but only because he DIDN'T TELL HER, SINCE THEY WERE SLEEPING TOGETHER!

MY GOD WOMAN, DO YOU NEED TO BE SLAPPED UPSIDE THE HEAD WITH A ZOMBIE HAND?!?!

*cough*

* Poor Rick. I think that a lot, but seriously, poor Rick. Not a good time to have a complete mental breakdown.

+ Watched "Roti" from Hannibal.

* Speaking of mental breakdowns: WILL! I am hoping that, since he's now in the hospital, someone will do another brain scan and find the encephalitis. But I'm sure that would be too easy. :-)

* The parallels of Chilton planting the idea of Gideon being the Ripper in his mind, and Hannibal's manipulation/observations of Will are quite interesting--and again make me wonder even more about Hannibal and his own relationship with his own psychiatrist.

* Wow, knowing what we know of the future: Chilton spent way too much of his life with his insides on his outsides.

* Only two episodes left? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

+ AND I watched the third season premier of Teen Wolf.

* I knew the twins were going to be characters this season and know a couple of spoilers about them. Did NOT hear anything about their Wonder Twin powers turning them into ONE GIANT ALPHA! That was freaky.

* Derek! Trying to be responsible and keep Scott out of things. Okay, we know that's going to work well, but still, I salute him for the effort.

* I actually liked Stiles with the buzz cut, but he looks slightly less like the jailbait he is with hair.

* Alison and her dad are no longer Hunters, eh? Interesting....

* A blowtorch? Really? That makes Derek getting his tattoo (presumably after the death of his family) so much more twisted. Just the idea of someone holding something, anything (presumably something a little more refined than a blowtorch, even if only a smaller torch) flaming to his back? Uh, yeah, no mental issues there.

* Wow, could Lydia have found a one night stand who looked more like Jackson? I doubt it.

* The Sheriff better find out what's going on soon. I hate the Dr. Bellows aspect of the whole thing.

* Need more!

+ And, finally, I watched two hockey games, one I was a lot more invested in than the other, both of which were good games, neither of which turned out the way I was hoping. Still good luck to the Blackhawks. And I look forward to next season.

+ My birthday is later this week, and I'm mostly looking forward to it for the day off, and possibly going to see a movie during the day. (Not sure what's out new by Thursday I'll want to see, so I might go for a re-watch of Iron Man 3 or Star Trek.) I'm far more excited about my birthday present
feochadn is getting me at the end of the month: the baseball game of the Mariner and the Cubs! Now, she's taken me to games for my birthday for the last several years, and I finally got to see my Cubbies play in person for the first time a few years ago. This year, though, they're not only going to be playing, but the day we're going is Turn Back the Clock Day, for which the Cubs will be playing in the Cubs uniform from 1909, while the Mariners (who didn't exist then) will be wearing the uniforms of the uniform of the Northwestern League team, the Seattle Turks. We also have amazing seats right near the home dugout and close enough to the field I'm insisting we all have baseball gloves for the inevitable fouls which will be coming our way. *g*
