This past weekend, I watched the new Fantastic Four movie. I'd not seen the first one. Well, I've seen the second one twice (different groups of friends) and I've seen most of the first one. I liked the first one better, though it was far from a *good* movie.

It's better than Shrek 3.

It's better than Spiderman 3. (Of course that's not so hard to do.)

Slow in places, very funny in others. Parts felt a little disjointed because they weren't tied to the second movie too well, though. Some things simply didn't get explained (or at least explained to my satisfaction).

It's worth the price of admission.

I saw Shrek the Third yesterday after work. In my opinion, it was very enjoyable, but not quite up to par with the first two. The second is still my favorite. For the most part, the humor seemed fairly forced in this one. There were several quite funny parts, though, including one that had me clutching my sides and gasping for air. My impression on Sunday afternoon after watching it a second time (I'd promised someone to go with them): Heh. It's not so bad the second time when you're *expecting* the terribleness.

I saw the new TMNT movie last night. There was a distinct lack of Vanilla Ice. There was also a distinct lack of Donatello or, as I like to say "The turtle not appearing in this film." 1) I haven't read the Frank Miller graphic novel on which this movie was directly based.
2) I last read about Sparta back in high school world history class as a footnote somewhere.
3) I've not been a terribly big fan of most movie adaptations of Frank Miller's work so far.
4) The only thing I went into this movie expecting was a lot of violence.

As a follow-up to yesterday's mentioning that I saw Pan's Labyrinth, the Acadamy Awards were announced today, and it's been nominated for 6 Oscars: Foreign Language Film, Original Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, Original Score and Makeup. One of the items on my 101in1001 list is to own all of the movies available on DVD by Director Ridley Scott. Why Ridley Scott? Because, quite simply, he's one of the best film directors in the history of movie making. He's also made over 2000 television commercials, including the 1984 Macintosh commercial. Saw X-Men: The Last Stand tonight. I spent most of the movie groaning at the forced dialogue or trying to stab my brain which was busy trying to figure out all of the existent material from which they pieced together this hodge-podge mess of a script.
