With thanks to tx_cronopio for starting the conversation, and to curiouswombat for the recipe therein:

Potatoes roasted in goose fat = Best. Potatoes. Evar.  In any form. Even better than leek mash and much simpler.

As a side note, if anyone ever tells you a roast goose produces a lot of fat, quadruple whatever quantity you're thinking of.

Made a really nummy batch of noodles tonight, which I wasn't sure would turn out, and unfortunately may never be able to quite recreate:

Start a pile of wide egg noodles cooking. Squeeze lime juice over yellowfin tuna steaks. Dust with pasilla pepper powder. Sear in a frying pan with olive oil and remove from pan. Deglaze pan with pinot grigio. ( Read more... )

Grandma's Fruitcake Bars

1          c.   golden raisins
1          c.   chopped dates
1          c.   chopped candied fruit
1/4      c.   brandy
4               eggs
1          c.   sugar
1          t.   vanilla
1          t.   grated orange peel
