I cracked open my first double yolker yesterday.  That's one egg with two yolks. Very cool. Also, I've posted a few items on craig's list, and while I was poking around, I found that folks are looking for fertile eggs for sale.....so I'm thinking about listing for fertile eggs too. He's quite mobile, but not very fast yet. He rolls over, is working on sitting up on his own, and is crawling backwards. He doesn't have his "front wheel drive" coordinated with his "rear wheel drive" very well, and ends up sliding backwards and flopping on his belly. I cleaned the ENTIRE bathroom. The sink, toilet, floor, bathtub, walls, and even dusted the nick-knack shelf. Except for a few white feathers I put on the shelf, the bathroom is chicken free! I did notice that my dried flower arrangement is dusty but I wasn't sure how to dust that without spending a half hour taking it apart and putting it back ( Read more... )

Well, our dwarf fruit trees arrived yesterday! Today we planted them and have wonderful family day outside. I thought we would be miserable outside this time of year, but it wasn't so bitter cold that you needed gloves. I went to the store and bought some "soil moist" which are water retaining crystals, and some stakes to mark out where to plant ( Read more... )

The baby chickens are 5 weeks old and have been living in my bathroom in the tub. I'm getting rather tired of this arrangement, and so I'm getting them used to being out side. Chickens, are in a word, chicken. They are quite flighty. They will get very close to you, but run, hop and flap their way from you. Some have taken food from my hand, especially if it's a juicy green grasshopper. Chickens LOVE to eat big hairy spiders ( Read more... )
