We have for white leghorn hens that look pretty much identical. I've been calling them "Snowflake" collectively, until now. Georgia is a good little hen, but very curious. She like to get out of our fenced in yard and go exploring. This morning I found her over by the lea land cypress trees foraging for bugs. I've seen her escape...she can fly up ( Read more... )

I cracked open my first double yolker yesterday.  That's one egg with two yolks. Very cool. Also, I've posted a few items on craig's list, and while I was poking around, I found that folks are looking for fertile eggs for sale.....so I'm thinking about listing for fertile eggs too. We found 4 tiny white eggs in the coop this weekend, so that means our Leghorn hens have started laying!! I didn't expect them to start until April!

He's quite mobile, but not very fast yet. He rolls over, is working on sitting up on his own, and is crawling backwards. He doesn't have his "front wheel drive" coordinated with his "rear wheel drive" very well, and ends up sliding backwards and flopping on his belly. • last week, cleaned out dog house coop
• today set up timers for heat laps
• scrubbed hen coop waterer, filled with hot tap water
• expecting freezing weather from Wednesday night to Friday, must leave lights on during day
• should clean hen coop tomorrow while temps are good

The other day, I was out feeding the chickens, and I hear a frantic "Meowwrrrr" coming from the garage. Roxy got locked in the garage all day, and when I let her out, she was soooooo happy to see me. I cleaned the ENTIRE bathroom. The sink, toilet, floor, bathtub, walls, and even dusted the nick-knack shelf. Except for a few white feathers I put on the shelf, the bathroom is chicken free! I did notice that my dried flower arrangement is dusty but I wasn't sure how to dust that without spending a half hour taking it apart and putting it back ( Read more... )
