Yes, trying! But I dont have much to work with here! Like I said, I'm not going to adopt just for the sake of adopting. I want to find a dog that works for us, and I want a dog that is going to be happy in our home. But we're trying!

Please, Zee, I beg you- do not get a dog unless you adopt. You might not get a dog at the exact moment that you want one but I promise you that if you are patient, the dog you are meant to have will come into your life.

You're like that SPCA ad with Sarah Mclachlin and the sad puppy and kitty faces! Killing me Hillary!

We aren't in a rush at all. If it takes a year to find my dog, I am okay with that. I don't want to rush, I want that one in a million dog and I know it will come around at the right time. I am just really having a hard time with the breed selection at our shelter. I wish we had the selection you guys have at places like North Shore.

I had two dogs growing up. A bichon who lived at my dad's named Toby and a terrier cross who lived at my mom's named Max. Toby was purchased when he was about 4 months old from Petland. Max was adopted from the Humane Society when he was about 1.5 years old. There's pros and cons to going either way ( ... )

Thanks for the input! From what I remember of Max, it seems like your mom had him trained pretty well! Hard to believe he was that close to being put to sleep! Thanks to your family, that doggy had an awesome life though.

Both my dogs growing up were from breeders so that's all I really have experience with. I have no problems with training a dog and working through any problems. Bottom line is the safety of the cats, if we can get that done, the rest will come with time.

I get the whole raising and nurturing thing too. Henry I found as a 6-9 week old kitten, so I've watched him grow (he used to be a scrawny little kitten!) Chase on the other hand I got at 15 months - I never got to see her as a tiny baby kitten. I bet she was super cute! Sometimes I wish I knew her at that awkward stage where they try to climb up on the couch but can't coordinate it - then I look over and see her jump and miss the couch and know I probably didn't miss much lol.

Low energy means no puppy :P Puppies are like self-propelling bundles of cold fusion.

I know that the WHS posts profiles of animals on their facebook page. You could browse the dog section and they usually say which are good with cats and such.

Yes, yes they are lol. I don't mind the puppy phase, there's an end to that. But high energy dogs like border collies and such would not work for us.

I have been watching the whs facebook, whs website and Petfinder to see what comes up but we aren't taking possession too October so we probably won't really start looking til nov/dec. Need to get settled and such first..

Fair enough, don't wanna fall in love before you get possession.

I used to want an English Bulldog, but then I heard that they can't naturally birth their puppies, and have to have them cut out, and I just can't support that at all. It seems totally f'd.

Yep I read that too, that's why puppies tend to go for 1500+. Puppies need to be born C section. I have a hard time supporting that top, but their temperament is ideal for our little family. But unless one shows up at the humane society, I don't think we will be getting one...
