In my continuing efforts to get my sorry ass to write more, I came up with this randomized drabble picker for myself. I figure enough drabbles and maybe I’ll start writing long stuff again.
The whole thing works like this. I made a list of all my muses, 18 in total, and then added two to make the list 20 because I like whole numbers like that. Then I made another list of 20 that I divided into 10 genres and 10 aus. Then I busted out the twenty sided dice because all good decisions are made by dice. With dice picking things for me, I got to writing ten drabbles.
Today there are eleven because I counted wrong. Go me!
None of these are longer than 250 words. They don’t have much backstory or any real reason to them. Don’t accept them as any RP canon unless you want to. Basically, I’m just writing whatever pops into my head.
I’m going to try and do this every day, especially on days when I’m stuck inside because of never ending rain. So, day one, here we go.

Title: Knowing
Prompt:
brings_to_light + AU!Mutant
He didn’t know how he knew everything, he just did. Thirteen years old and his mind just exploded with knowledge. It wasn’t just facts either. He looked at his mother during dinner one night and knew that when she as seven her best friend kissed her on the cheek. Her best friend was a girl named Tina. And it kept happening.
His father, his brothers, his teachers, he looked at everyone and just knew things about them. It was terrifying. He didn’t want to know these things about people, especially about strangers. He withdrew into himself. He couldn’t take the endless knowledge and the knowing. He was probably just going crazy and he would end up a babbling mess, locked away from the world and doped to the gills. He knew it, just like he knew everything else.
And then his mother knocked on his door and what he knew changed. The man on the other side of the door changed it.
“What do you want, Mr. Xavier?”

Title: Ashes to Wind
Prompt:
12yrs_life + AU!Vampire
“You’re going to end up a pile of ash one day,” Theodore muttered as he came down the backstairs, the early dawn light touching the edges of his cloak. He closed the cellar door and instantly felt the same skin crawling claustrophobia that always came over him when he was locked in.
“I will only be ash until I get carried away on the wind, then I will be the wind.”
The other vampire blinked at him for a moment, then settled for shaking his head.
“Well, Mr. Wind, I’ll see you when the sun sets. Don’t go outside. Rachel told me about the burns on your face. You have a charge now, you can’t be reckless.”

Title: Coincidence
Prompt:
sarcio_pater + AU!Werewolves
The wolf came from his right seconds after a noise came from his left. John cursed to himself as at least a hundred pounds of fur and furor took him down before he could bring his shotgun around. The black and gray wolf pressed a paw against his throat and snarled in his face. John, being a surly bastard, snarled back even though other wolves came from the forest.
There was a huge mostly black wolf, another smaller gray wolf, and a red-brown and tan wolf who circled in front of the others. Alpha, John thought, watching the red-brown draw closer and closer with every step. It stopped just outside his reach and changed.
“Ranger,” he said, truly surprised.
He had interviewed the Latino woman just hours ago about the disappearance of a college co-ed named Heather. Everyone in town treated it like a normal kidnapping. John knew it was werewolves.
“Hunter.” She took his shotgun and tossed it to the black wolf who caught it in his jaws and ran off. “Stay out of my pack’s territory and we won’t kill you. We’re taking care of Heather and the wolf that bit her. Leave pack business to the pack, you understand?”
She fixed him with a look and John understood why this woman was Alpha wolf.

Title: Self-worth
Prompt:
12yrs_life + Family
The funny thing about shooting his dad is that Charlie doesn’t feel that guilty about it. Everyone looks at him like he should feel guilty, but rarely does he feel what other people except of him. What he really feels is annoyance, a lot of annoyance.
There’s going to be an investigation because he shot his dad and because he’s Charlie Crews. He hates investigations and feels a small hint of worry. Someone, the mysterious five he’s trying to find, might use it to ruin him. It would be difficult since he only shot his dad in the shoulder but they framed him for murder once. They could do something again.
Charlie wants to do something. He wants to shoot his father again. If he’s going to get screwed over by another conspiracy he might as well make it worthwhile.

Title: Tutoring Session
Prompt:
goteam_magic + Friendship
“Man, how come you get this stuff?” Bennett looks at him like he’s a genius and Dave just shrugs.
“I just do.”
“Well, wherever you got your spooky Albert Einstein physics genius from I’m grateful. Why the heck do I have to take this? I’m a Bio Major!”
Dave pops open his fourth Mountain Dew of the night and props his feet up on his desk. “It’s a conspiracy we physics majors have going to make Bio majors miserable for choosing the lesser of the two sciences.”
“I knew it! Well, you better watch out man because we’re almost done with those genetically engineered attack squid.”
He laughs and then shrugs. “I think my coils can make kalamari. Bring it, nature nerd.”
“Oh, it’s on Tesla fan boy. It’s. On.”

Title: Star Light, Star Bright
Prompt:
ironknifehunter + Hurt/Comfort
The shower freaks her out. It’s a crappy little tiled mess, keyword being little. She feels the walls closing in even has she tries to scrub that tiny little hellhole off her skin in lukewarm water. Her mind’s just playing tricks on her. It’s stupid. She tells herself over and over it’s stupid but after ten minutes she shuts the water off, dries herself in a flurry of towels and rushes out of the bathroom like a hellhound is on her heels.
Sam and Dean both look startled, but she ignores them in favor of getting the hell out of that room, out of any room and into the open air. The motel parking lot isn’t exactly an open field in the middle of nowhere but there’s no roof overhead, no walls around her and Jo feels herself breathe a little easier.
She’s not surprised when she hears footsteps behind her. She ignores them in favor of looking up at the stars. She can see a few even with the light pollution.
Dean stands next to her and looks up too. Then he speaks and says exactly what Jo’s not expecting and everything she needs to hear because it’s not about anything she just went through and it’s stupid and typically Dean.
“That’s the constellation Booger.” He points. “Sam named it when he was six.”
She cracks a half smile, “Which one did you name Boobs?”

Title: The Run Around
Prompt:
tele_military + AU!Detective
“I’m Special Agent Barq, where is Detectives Winchester and Devine?”
Everyone in the Special Investigations office pauses and looks towards her. Jen raises her chin and holds up her United States Army Criminal Investigation Command badge as a head pops up from a cubical. She recognizes the messy black hair of Detective Devine right away. She had spotted him on scene while she talked to his partner.
Without waiting for an invitation she makes her way over to his desk while Detective Devine gets to his feet. He offers her a hand, which she ignores.
“Do you think I wouldn’t figure it out?” she asks, leaning into his personal space. The detective doesn’t seem to have any concept of this because he stands still and doesn’t lean back like she wanted.
“Figure what out, agent?” he asks, sounding genuinely confused.
“The lead your partner gave me was bullshit.”
Devine’s features don’t change an inch which just increases her frustration. The two of them might have got her off course but it wouldn’t happen again.

Title: A Little Game
Prompt:
soldier_ofgod + Friendship
“Here, catch!”
Castiel catches the ball thrown at him out of reflex. He looks down at the oval shaped leather ball and tilts his head. He recognizes it as a football. Dean has made him watch football and he is quite fond of the Saints, but he has never actually held one before.
He is intrigued by the texture, rough and yet smoothed by age. His hands cannot span the whole thing and he finds it somewhat awkward to hold. A gun had felt more natural than this.
“Dude, only you could look at a football like it’s a three headed alien,” Dean says. Cas does not need to look up to know he is rolling his eyes. “Would you throw it back already?”
Now he does look up, blinking at Dean. “Throw it back?”
“Yeah, how else are we going to have a game of catch unless you throw it back?” Dean’s looking at him like he’s an idiot, but he can pick out the amused wrinkles around his eyes.
Castiel throws the football back much like he would throw his sword into the chest of an opponent. He smirks with satisfaction when it hits Dean in the exact center of his chest causing the hunter to expel a breath of air. He decides he likes this game.

Title: Insanity
Prompt:
goteam_magic + Adventure
“This is a terrible plan,” Dave tells Balthazar as they dive behind a large bolder in Central Park. “Why do I keep listening to your plans?”
“Because I’m your master, Dave,” Balthazar replies calmly as if there isn’t a clan of Kappa throwing stone spears at them.
“My crazy master,” Dave mutters under his breath. There’s a gurgling scream from above them and they both look up to see a Kappa making a crazy dive at them, brandishing a spear.
Balthazar reacts faster than he does. He blasts the Kappa with super-heated air causing the water demon to change from his semi-solid mostly liquid jello consistency to steam and evaporate harmlessly away.
“One down.” Balthazar looks rather pleased with himself, which makes Dave roll his eyes. His master is insane and darn it if Dave doesn’t just find it amusing these days. He needs to go out with his other friends and remind himself how sane people act.
“Only thirty left.”
“Best get started then.”
The both take a breath and then leap back over the rock, throwing spells at the charging Kappa army.

Title: Warring Factions
Prompt: Writer’s Choice =
lieu_murphy + AU!Other Show = House
She dropped a stack of files on House’s stomach and felt a little better when he jumped in surprise. Or maybe he jumped because of how large the stack was. Either way it made her day just a little better.
“I can’t see patients right now,” he said, his voice somewhat muffled by the two month old Vogue magazine over his face.
“And why not?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
“I’m a zombie. If you send patients in here, I’ll bite them and you’ll start the zombie apocalypse. Do you want to start the zombie apocalypse?”
As head nurse Murphy’s job was difficult enough, but Dr. House just added a little something extra. She couldn’t decide if he was an annoyance or entertainment. He was definitely insane and terrible about completing his clinic hours.
“Even as a zombie you’d never bite a patient. You’d have better taste than that.”
Blue eyes peeked at her from under the magazine and she saw the barest hint of a smile from the doctor. She tried not to be charmed. It sort of worked.

Title: When You Ain’t Got No Soul.
Prompt:
re_bourne + AU!Daemon
“I think it she was a lioness,” he tells Marie one night. Her magpie is nesting on top of the dresser. There’s no other daemon in the room. He lost his when he lost his memory. “I see one in my dreams sometimes. I don’t know if she’s mine though.”
Marie rubs his back and doesn’t say anything. What’s there to say really? He couldn’t remember his own soul, that was worse than the lost memories.

Author’s Notes: Most of the AUs are based off AUs I’ve already written. The vampire one takes place in Hope’s Vampire Verse, even if it isn’t obvious. The werewolf AU is from Murphy’s werewolf verse. The detective AU is from Cas’s detective verse. The mutant AU is just a random X-Men AU though. Nothing special. While Murphy has a House verse, the purpose of the Other Show AU is to write a muse into another show as if they belonged there. It’s not a crossover. So, she got a new House verse. These are fun. I’m going to have to do more.
