Title: Misery Loves Company
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Pairings: Harry/Blaise, one-sided Harry/Ginny, and Ron/Theo, if you squint (I swear that wasn't intentional)
Summary: Ron has a little trouble adjusting to the new "normal", now that Harry and Zabini are out of the closet.
Author's Notes: Kind-of-challenge by mara_202, who said, I love the idea of them using weird nicknames to traumatise Ron and Theo. *snickers* *pokes Moony* I'd love to read a ficlet like that. *hint hint* (I am not amused). Also for fanfic100, prompt 21 - "Friends". Slight warnings, I guess, for Ron having one fanon!Draco-moment (and no, I'm not joking about that).

Misery Loves Company

By Monday, the whole school knew. They knew how Harry Potter and that “what’s-his-name-Zambini-or-something-like-that” character from Slytherin were found by Pansy Parkinson in the charms corridor together, exchanging a more-than-friendly greeting.

The Gryffindor girls had been tittering about it since Saturday, and most of the Hufflepuffs still couldn’t look either boy in the eyes without bushing. Neither Harry nor Zabini seemed the slightest bit embarrassed.

Hermione was taking the news well. Ron suspected that Harry had told her earlier, and took a moment to fume at the favouritism. Ginny, as expected, had smoke coming out of her ears.

And there were changes, now: on Sunday, Harry had eaten breakfast at the Slytherin table, and Zabini spent their Monday morning potions lesson seated next to Harry - on the Gryffindor side of the room. But the memory of all the points Slytherin lost that lesson failed to improve Ron’s mood.

The worst of the changes was this: at lunchtime, Zabini marched over to the Gryffindor table, with two friends in tow. ‘This is Daphne Greengrass,’ he announced, ‘and this is Theodore Nott. They’re my best friends. Theo, Daphne - these two are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Play nicely.’

And without further ado, he forced the pair into two free seats, across from Ron and Hermione, and then sat himself primly next to Harry. So close, in fact, that they could be playing footsie under the table - Ron thought, with an inward quake of horror, that they probably were.

Hermione laughed at the look on his face, and Greengrass snickered too, upon seeing what all the fuss was about. Harry and Zabini were leaning inwards, and seemed to be smiling. They looked up.

‘Shall we leave them to it, then, snookums?’ Zabini asked. Harry nodded, and the two of them left.

Ron’s face was horror-struck. ‘I am scarred,’ he murmured. ‘Scarred for life. Hermione - you must never, ever remind me of this day again.’

Hermione giggled. Greengrass covered her smile with one, carefully manicured hand. Ron glanced over at Nott, and they shared a moment of mutual trauma.

Well, Ron decided, at least he didn’t have to go through this alone. Misery loves company, and all that rot.
