I watched all evening as Carl the Calliope defended 'his' feeder from all comers.  Go Carl!  I think I saw his 'woman' too...she was even tinier than he!

And got tangled in the plastic mesh, much to the joy of Smokey and Madeline, who, of course, found it most convenient.  And in truth it does mean that mesh would be a good survival trapping tool for tasty tasty small animals and probably birds.  I got out there in time and chased Smokey off before checking out the situation ( Read more... )

Thought there was a bird outside trapped in something, but it turned out to be a chipmunk who's in my in-ground garden and can't figure out how to get out.  I dropped some thistle seeds at the point he probably entered at to try and help him figure it out.  There shouldn't be much in there for him to destroy, aside from possibly the daffodil bulbs ( Read more... )

Yesterday I was tired, then took Madeline for a walk around the courtyard.  A frond of cedar drew my attention, as did a rock, so I asked if I was to pick them up and got 'Yes', so I did.  And a short while later, the 'leader' of the cedars asked me to burn the frond ( Read more... )
