Catching up

I am all caught up on my Friends Page. Yay!

Yesterday, we slept until noon. It was rather by accident, but I think we needed it. We then rose, Tom took care of some work stuff that his boss called about at about 8:30 and asked him to look at "when he got up," took a shower, and headed out. We had some lunch at Celebrity's Sidewalk Cafe, which is a very yummy little sandwich place we've found. Eventually, I think we need to just introduce ourselves to the guy that is always behind the counter when we go. We all recognize each other and we have nice little conversations at the counter. I find him interesting, and we need more friends. I guess I need to really get a time-line on how long we'll be here before I really jump on the friend-recruiting wagon. Hmm..
Anyway, we then went to Target and returned the dress I took with me to Maui but did not wear. Then we bought some groceries and headed home. Upon arrival, we had to punish both kitties - at least one of them had been on the kitchen counter and spilled my aloe plant all over everywhere. Tom put up the groceries while I cleaned up the dirt; we changed clothes and went outside to work on the gutters. Let me preface that.

Friday, it rained. And rained. And rained some more. In the evening, I looked out our bedroom window and noticed that water was pouring out of the gutter rather than running down the drainpipe. This is extra bad in that location, b/c it is just above the basement window that the termite guy broke the cover of. So, water was pouring down onto the tarp we had laid out over the window. When we went downstairs, we found lots of water coming in through the window well (somewhat normal since the cover was broken), and, more disturbingly, water coming through the wall in places unrelated to (but close to) the window well. This means that water is pooling in the dirt in that area and coming through the walls instead of dispersing into the yard. Bad.

So, Saturday we climbed up on the roof and cleaned the gutters out. We replaced one section of gutter guard that had fallen off completely, and tried to reshape the rest back into place. The gutters themselves were listing slightly away from the house, so we pulled them back up into place and hammered their support nails back into the house deeper. Over above our window, the roof is too steep to stand on, so it took some tricky ladder work to get to the problem areas, but I think it's all clean and aligned now. We also removed the tarp and made a good effort of replacing the window cover on that problem window. It was not fun. Our air conditioner is an exterior unit, and for some reason, its hoses are all crossing over that window, so we had to cut chunks out of the new cover for the hoses. It was very frustrating and difficult, and came out sort of half-assed, but whatever. We're probly going to have to remove it anyway to work on that window well, of which the outer wall is starting to sag in and also no longer meets the floor of the window well, which is allowing dirt and water to enter the well. Bah. The joys of home-ownership. Soon, we will need to rake and mow, but yesterday was just too cold and yucky for us, and we were very disappointed by the whole window fiasco.

After warming up (which took a good, long amount of snuggling in bed), we headed for the Great Mall to eat a super-nutritious food court meal and then go to the Clay Cafe, where I was hoping they hadn't given up on us ever coming back and whited-out our last projects. Just as we were choosing where to eat, Katie and Jake called and invited us over to play games. So, we ate and headed over there instead of to the Clay Cafe (we're gonna go today instead). Katie and I talked while Tom and Jake played a game of clix, and then we all played a game of Order of the Stick, which was very fun, but none of us realized how long it would take. We got home and went to bed around 2am! :O

Today, we were up by 10:30. We are breakfasted and ready to begin our day. We'll see what we get done. :)
