Happiness Left Ashore.
I am / Tainted / And happiness and peace of mind / We're never meant for me.
JaeJoong hates Busan, feels like he left any and all of his positivism in Chungcheong. The school is harder, the teachers are less forgiving - his Advanced Physics teacher yells at him the first day, hands on her jutting-corner hips, for not sitting in alphabetical order from last names. English alphabetical order, apparently, and stared at him as if he was a kindergartener that had waddled into high school when he flustered and looked around - as if he didn’t know his ABCs. He knew his ABCs - abcdeghijkfmlnopqrstuvwxyz - what he didn’t know were his classmates last names.
He was completely lost- how was he supposed to tell the difference between a Park and a Kim? They all looked Korean to him.
Apparently things were different in Busan - one was supposed to know the difference between the two family lines by appearance, be able to spot them from a mile radius and pick them out of a crowd. JaeJoong has yet to accomplish this skill.
So he instead flounders helplessly, trying to peer over students shoulders at their notebooks, looking for the one that said Kim anything so he could sit down and feign happiness. All he finds are weirded out students that hoard their papers to their chests like mothers with babies.
Busan is so strange, he snarls inwardly, looking up to the teacher in defeat. She barks out a name, followed by the instant raising of a hand by a frail little kid by a window. “Over there, Kim JaeJoong.” She reminds him of his grandmother - looks nothing like her but the disapproval is there. He sits down where he’s told, presses his lips together and ignores the burning in his eyes.
Physicists are so cruel, JaeJoong muses mentally, and discovers himself sitting beside goody-two-shoes Kim Junsu - if Kim were a trait rather than a sorting device, JaeJoong is beginning to think it would be something like religiously devout family members, because his new seatmate radiates Christianity. He introduces himself obligingly, but JaeJoong’s polite-o-meter is drained to a near empty, so he doesn’t do much more than grunt and lay his head on his desk.
Busan will get better, he tells himself, everything will get better.
