The good, the bad, and the aggrivating

I know I’ve been silent for several days, and thought about now some of you might be wondering what’s up. There been some health drama (nothing serious), personal frustration, and some good news, but I’m still writing and up to no good as usual. For those of you want to know more, please follow me to the cut below.

Okay, where to start. I got news on the Lesbian Cowboy anth. I didn’t make the final cut. That seems to be the norm lately. I make the short list, but when the final stories are gathered mine don’t make it to the finish line. I suppose I should be glad I regularly make the short list. That says something about the stories at least. I do wish the anths weren’t themed so often, since it makes the rejected stories harder to place someplace else. I’ll look around for a home for “Wren Woman”, and if nothing else maybe offer it as a free read/promo read.

I’ve also learned over the years that when my kids hurt themselves they don’t play around. My eight years old son was cleaning his room and got a 1/8 inch splinter under his fingernail. Since he bites his nails to the quick it was too hard for me to get at it with a tweezers. Two days and $40 in copays later (along with lots of soaking) the doctor finally pulled the splinter out and now my son’s on med to kill the infection. Fun.

The good news is all four foster kittens are off to good homes, so we are down to our own two cats now. I am so happy for the kittens. Star and Bright Eyes went off with an older woman who spent two hours in the pet store buying all the best stuff for them. It was so sweet to see. Luna and Zora went to live with a family and their new Husky friend. The family’s daughter even built the kittens their own cat tree and the family was so excited they got there 30min early for the pick up. Always a good sign.

Then comes the movie drama my family and friend have heard me bitching about for over a week now. Fuckin’ Avatar casting bullshit. Now I know being fanatasy character Saka and Kitara weren’t really ndn, but dammmit they were the closest we’d ever gotten in a TV show. I was so excited about the life action movie…that was until I saw the casting list. Okay, I could’ve lived with Aang being white if I HAD to, but not my wonderful siblings. And the person they chose for Zuko…give me a break. Please tell me that’s not just a ploy to get the horny teen girl to come see the film.

For those of you wondering why I’m making a big deal about them not using ndn actors for Kitara and her bro, let me give you a little history lesson. Ndn role had for year been cast by white and latino actors, even asian, but with lots of makeup. There are MANY talented ndn actors out there. So why not use them? MY guess it its easier to promote stupid ass stereotypes when you don’t have ndn folks there to complain about it. Well get this…

Here’s an interesting clip delux_vivens  shared at her blog about the past portayl of ndn roles in film

Mr. director/producer/casting folks, I’m complaining about it! If I wanted to watch a monochromatic show I’d not be watching Avatar in the first place. Your casting all white actors was a poorly thought out decision and in the era of a black president and a soon to be black Doctor Who it’s about to blow up in you face. The days of monochromatic media is over! Welcome to the future!
