Why Facebook needs an LJ-CUT feature (and gratuitous smuttiness)
Copying over a bunch of stuff from FB, because one of the many things that drives me up the wall about the interface is how hard it is to keep track of anything over there. One of the other biggest issues is the lack of anything similar to LJ-CUT, to allow a warning and opt-out option for folks who don't want to encounter specific topics or nsfw images and such. Right now it's basically a choice of having my status display on your FB page, or not having it display. I want more granularity! In some ways I use the cross-posting from LJ to mimic that, since folks see the title of the post and can decide whether to click through and read it or not, but it's not easy to do that on the spur of the moment when having a fb-length comment to post about life from my phone. Also, lots of folks on FB don't automatically load Notes posts to display in their main page, so almost never happen to see them. Blarg.
So, demonstration of concept, have an LJ-CUT with smutty bits behind it (which, of course, doesn't actually do anything additional for folks from FB, since it clicks through to the full post automatically):

These are things I posted over on FB, that I would've danced around a hell of a lot less if I knew folks had a way of opting out of seeing them if they preferred not to:
Fb totally needs a nsfw tagging option, and a way to set your views of your friends according. I would use the shit out of that kind of option, because I know that about half of you would be amused as hell by the kind of status updates I'd post, half really wouldn't want to know, either now or generally. (Commentary and scene recs on a buck angel vid in this particular moment)

Jibreel, I know what you mean. And I tried but failed to get a pic I love, but in which I'm topless, to upload without showing on folks' walls. I don't give a rat's ass who sees me naked, but given current cultural taboos I try not to make that nonconsensual exposure for anyone. Same thing about writing about sex stuff. Anyone who has known me knows how I am about these topics, and that's been true basically always.

I don't care HOW much sense it makes thematically. Gratuitous clowns are just NEVER ok. (Why Cirque Noir doesn't get as many repeated views as it otherwise deserves)

Also, many of you had cameos in my conversation with Chad last night; long ramble through the history of my social dynamics from middle school, high school, first loves, initial sexual discoveries, and the like. Fond thoughts in your collective directions. Also to all who ever defended me when I was bullied, or was a friend when I really needed one - that was part of the conversation too. You've helped make me who I am, and I'm happy so something went very right with that along the way.
