I don't have curly hair, but I'm still fascinated by the whole
no shampoo movement. I had a friend who discovered in college that his hair was much easier to handle with no shampoo, but he confided this to me late, late at night when nobody else was around. It's okay, joe! There's a movement, now!
In the past, I've gone without shampoo for weeks/months when I have dyed hair; shampooing just felt too harsh. Normally, when my hair is brightly colored, I skip the lather and only use conditioner. However, I've had brown hair for six months now and I've been shampooing the whole time. (Side note: I've been using Lush solid shampoo and conditioner bars, which I love love love the smell of and which reduces the amount of plastic that enters the house. Love.)
Anyway, I recently decided to try no-poo with my regular hair. I'm about two weeks in, and sure enough, my hair is insanely soft, and it has body! My hair! Has body! I don't know why I'd never considered going shampooless with regular hair before, but it's actually working and that's delightful.
I know a lot of my friends have much more difficult to manage hair than I do - mine is thin and sparse and flat, but is easy to care for when I cut it in a style that suits it. So, it feels a bit spoiled to remove one of the only bits of hair care I actually keep up with. On the other hand, I love a good bit of self-experimentation!
Have you done this? Does it seem interesting, or horrifying? Have you experimented with long-term shampoolessness and then gone back, or do you still do it?
