I can confirm that the first ballot cast in the federal election in Jeanne-Le Ber was for the NDP. I know, because I cast it ^_^

As most of you know by now, I am managing Daniel Breton's campaign here in Jeanne-Le Ber (the riding where I ran in 2000, 2002, and 2006). After a string of days fraught with the usual annoyances of getting a campaign up and running, we had a perfectly magnificent day today.

The day began with a great front-page article in the morning Devoir. At 9:30, Daniel and I were at Square Victoria for the announcement of our environment plan, which Daniel had a hand in writing. (He's one of Quebec's most important environmentalists, co-founder of the Quebec Green Party, and the guy who launched the campaign that got the Suroît gas power plant cancelled.) Daniel introduced Jack, and indeed was one of only three people to speak, along with Tom Mulcair and Jack himself.

At eleven, we had a protest in favour of continuing a federal program on homelessness, where Anne spoke and was accompanied by Daniel, Richard Marois (St-Lambert), and Jean-Claude Rocheleau (Hochelaga) -- we were the only ones with more than one candidate. Then we had an energetic rally with Jack at Anne's campaign headquarters.

Finally I stopped by our campaign headquarters to grab some signs and headed out on my bike -- pausing at a major Verdun video game store that wants some signs for its windows. And at the election office.

It feels like the campaign is pretty close to being truly underway.

BTW, we're having a campaign kickoff and fundraiser this Sunday at 7 PM at Bitoque, 3706 Notre-Dame Ouest in Saint-Henri. Do come!
