I think R's wife left him because of his extreme cowardice,..so it would be interesting to me if, in a twist on the original tale, he'd wed the miller's daughter himself and they were raising their child (not the king's) together until she skipped off to find a better life. Then, perhaps, Snow found out about the EQ leaving them behind and marrying her father?

Ooooh, I like that theory. Could you imagine? Rumpy and Regina are exes? Which means she abandoned her son... ohhh, the deliciousness.
Which kinda gets me thinking. Rumpy lived in fairytale bad times, what with the ogre wars and the evil king who sacrificed all the kingdom's children to fight (or possibly feed) the ogres. You could then say that the original king that imprisoned the Miller's daughter was this land's evil king... Rumpy helps her (but then... he didn't have powers before then, so that kind negates the entire theory, but moving on), they get married and then she splits because of his cowardice. Cue the story line we saw in the show ( ... )
