Thinking happy (and gay) thoughts.

Aug 22, 2007 20:26

It's been a stressful couple of weeks, so here's five things that made me happy today:

1. Giving in to my impulse to eat fish and chips for dinner.

2. The Ten and Martha poster I have up in my office, with Ten's bright red Chucks and his uber-phallic sonic screwdriver pointing right at me.

3. Season four of The O.C., which I now I have on DVD ( Read more... )

...and had a gorgeous component where Noah talked about Col Mayer not accepting a gay son and Luke trying to keep him from lying to himself and Maddie.

That was such a great scene and I'm really glad that the writers are giving Luke the common sense to actually confront Noah about what he's planning on doing to himself AND Maddie.

If he wants to destroy himself in order to please his father, that's one thing, but to include Maddie in that deception is completely different.

Noah's not even thinking about Maddie's feelings at all. He just sees this "perfect solution" in being what his father wants. Will his father be around all the time, in order for him to keep up the facade?

Have you seen the article in Soap Opera Weekly on the Nuke kiss from Friday's episode? It received over 200,000 views/hits on YouTube. That's amazing.

I just went over to SOW.com and saw that blurb about the great response and the YT hits! I shouldn't be surprised. At least five of those hits are from me. *g*

I'm really happy with the current pace of the story, too. I loved Luke confronting Noah compassionately but firmly, with all that hope in his eyes. And I finally get where Noah is coming from. Jake Silbermann is playing that desperation really well. The Borg-like Straight Boy mask he was wearing earlier this summer has slipped, revealing the scared teen beneath. But, yeah, if he thinks he and Maddie can just have this idyllic hetero love story, then he's really kidding himself.

When you have a chance, check out the TWoP AtWT thread. People are absolutely raving about the storyline and they are so pleased that Luke's not backing down from Noah.

They LOVE Van Hansis. They just love him.

I'm trying to feel some sympathy for Maddie at the moment, but I'm just floored that she doesn't see how tense and stressed Noah gets around his father. She doesn't ask him why his father is so rude to people, especially Luke.

It's like Luke has this bulls eye on him and Noah's father is ready for target practice. The guy is definitely scared that his son is gay and any male this is his friend, is a threat.

Van is highly lovable! He's a solid, talented, young actor and I hope the Daytime Emmy voters wakes the heck up and honors him next year, since they were asleep at the switch this year.

Maddie's being written very poorly right now. She's always been an inquisitive, borderline nosy, and intelligent girl. The fact that she's SO clueless about Noah and Col. Mayer is just lazy and out of character writing. Especially when the tension between Win and Noah is so obvious, when Win's rudeness to Luke is anything but charming.

Re: #5 - I knew who you were talking about and yet for a brief moment I had a very weird mental image of Noah Drake and Luke Spencer. *facepalm*

Ewwww on the Luke Spencer part. Van Hansis has better hair than Tony Geary. ;-)

Well. That would definitely put a whole different spin on the whole scene! BWAH!

4. The first three chapters of His Majesty's Dragon. I'm already in love with Temeraire.

Isn't it adorable? And so is Temeraire--without getting into any spoilers, the way he reacts when Laurence is in danger is the cutest thing ever.

And that Luke/Noah scene was so painful. And it makes so much sense--if Noah truly thinks he has a choice, and can choose not to be who he truly is...oh dear. I hope that Luke can sit Noah down and tell him about his own 'coming out' experience and that it WASN'T all sunshine and daisies (saw the clips on YouTube) but that it was beyond worth it at the end.

Quick question: this Dusty guy? Does he have a thing for girls half his age, because it seems like he does.

Dusty has a tiny thing for girls half his age. The Alison thing was an accident (and a bad idea on the writers' part), but a few years ago, he did fall in love with Lucy Montgomery, who was barely 18. It was actually a really well done love story, with lots of UST and hesitation on his part. Every girlfriend besides Lucy has been closer to his own age.

I know Luke and Noah scenes are going to be sporadic in the coming weeks, but I certainly hope Luke does sit Noah down and talk about his own come out process. Those scenes were amazing and his confrontation with his biological father, Damian, at the airport were heartwrenching. Being gay has been no picnic for Luke. He's alone, he's shy, and he wants to make this connection as desperately as Noah wants to deny it.

So, what happens right after the kiss? I don't follow ATWT, but I was curious enough to check it out on YT.

Right after the kiss, Noah pulled away and laughed it off, claiming he'd just played a "joke" on Luke to lighten him up because he's so intense about being gay. Luke, being no dummy, didn't believe that for an instant. Noah then ran off to meet his father and girlfriend. When he came back, the scene above took place.
