Thinking happy (and gay) thoughts.

It's been a stressful couple of weeks, so here's five things that made me happy today:

1. Giving in to my impulse to eat fish and chips for dinner.

2. The Ten and Martha poster I have up in my office, with Ten's bright red Chucks and his uber-phallic sonic screwdriver pointing right at me.

3. Season four of The O.C., which I now I have on DVD ( Read more... )

...and had a gorgeous component where Noah talked about Col Mayer not accepting a gay son and Luke trying to keep him from lying to himself and Maddie.

That was such a great scene and I'm really glad that the writers are giving Luke the common sense to actually confront Noah about what he's planning on doing to himself AND Maddie.

If he wants to destroy himself in order to please his father, that's one thing, but to include Maddie in that deception is completely different.

Noah's not even thinking about Maddie's feelings at all. He just sees this "perfect solution" in being what his father wants. Will his father be around all the time, in order for him to keep up the facade?

Have you seen the article in Soap Opera Weekly on the Nuke kiss from Friday's episode? It received over 200,000 views/hits on YouTube. That's amazing.

I just went over to SOW.com and saw that blurb about the great response and the YT hits! I shouldn't be surprised. At least five of those hits are from me. *g*

I'm really happy with the current pace of the story, too. I loved Luke confronting Noah compassionately but firmly, with all that hope in his eyes. And I finally get where Noah is coming from. Jake Silbermann is playing that desperation really well. The Borg-like Straight Boy mask he was wearing earlier this summer has slipped, revealing the scared teen beneath. But, yeah, if he thinks he and Maddie can just have this idyllic hetero love story, then he's really kidding himself.

When you have a chance, check out the TWoP AtWT thread. People are absolutely raving about the storyline and they are so pleased that Luke's not backing down from Noah.

They LOVE Van Hansis. They just love him.

I'm trying to feel some sympathy for Maddie at the moment, but I'm just floored that she doesn't see how tense and stressed Noah gets around his father. She doesn't ask him why his father is so rude to people, especially Luke.

It's like Luke has this bulls eye on him and Noah's father is ready for target practice. The guy is definitely scared that his son is gay and any male this is his friend, is a threat.

Van is highly lovable! He's a solid, talented, young actor and I hope the Daytime Emmy voters wakes the heck up and honors him next year, since they were asleep at the switch this year.

Maddie's being written very poorly right now. She's always been an inquisitive, borderline nosy, and intelligent girl. The fact that she's SO clueless about Noah and Col. Mayer is just lazy and out of character writing. Especially when the tension between Win and Noah is so obvious, when Win's rudeness to Luke is anything but charming.

Yeah, I asked about the back story for Maddie and someone on TWoP told me about her ex, Casey being sent to jail for theft. He breaks up with her "for her own good" and then she ends up in bed with Noah. Also, that after sex scene was very awkward between those two.

TPTB are not doing a great thing with Maddie at this point. Many viewers, especially the female ones are pissed that she's not questioning why Noah wants to move in with her now, when she told Gwen that she wasn't really into Noah as much as she was with Casey.

I guess they're couching it as she's on the rebound. Plus, she had a horrible year last year, remembering she was raped by her brother-in-law, being chased by a serial killer who turned out to be her sister, etc. You can fanwank that Maddie is so desperate for normalcy that she needs a beard, too.

But if the sex is bad (which we know it is) and she has doubts, why force it? Maddie's denial needs to be balanced with basic intelligent choices.
