Manic Maine Coon

When we go out of town, we board the dogs. Normally we board at our vets but the last few times have not been very nice. Strike 1: kennel cough; Strike 2: horrible case of fleas; Strike 3: the dogs came home very dehyrated -- they drank two big bowls of water within the first half hour of being home. This time we took them to the PetsMart Pet Hotel. I highly recommend this -- the staff was very pleasant and informative, you can see directly into the kennel area, and what you can't see is projected on a monitor in the lobby. The dogs got two walks a day and they could go into the doggy day care room to play with other dogs (once the in-house behaviorist cleared them). The big bonus was that it was actually cheaper than the vets. Both Patrick and Vixen seemed much happier and less stressed so I think we've found their new home away from home.

Speezo, on the other hand, does not do alone very well. It's been my experience that cats don't like to travel. My other cats preferred staying at home with a self-feeder full of dry food, a water dish, and a dripping faucet. (Topper liked drinking from the sink; why, we had no idea.) Speezo is clearly a different sort of cat. He's a Maine Coon and they tend to be outgoing and social. Since we got back, he's alternated from wandering around the house meowing or demanding to go in and out. I think he comes back in just to make sure that we're still here. I woke up twice last night to find him on my chest, purring like a mad fiend and making biscuits in the covers.

Silly kitty.
