Tis the season to be jolly. Isn't that what they say? Maybe we should have some new sayings like:
Tis the season to be broke.
This the season to be an asshole.
Tis the season to be tired.
Nah, I think I like the original one the best. But here are some of the things that made me wonder what's going on these days.
Someone in Alaska build a huge snowman which I guess was destroyed by the city and the family that build it was ordered not to build another one.
What? For real? Its a snowman!! Get a life. After a little more reading I guess the people have a junky yard and keep getting fined for said junk. Ok, so what? Is the snowman made of junk? No, it was made of snow.... not seeing the problem here. Find something else to worry about.
Speaking of broke, I know we are supposed to be in a time of economic crisis and all that but I was still really surprised to see 4 stores in our area going out of business. I went to Coconuts tonight (really its FYE in disguise) and they are closing so everything was 50% off. The other night I went to Kay Bee which is now at 40% off because they are also going out of business. Then there is Linens and Things and the other store I went to last week was an independent at the mall called Apricot Lane that was kind of like a gift shop.
I guess this really does happen every little while though. I don't think it is the sign of the apocalypse or anything. Remember Ames? How about Zayre, Bradleys, Gaines, A & P, Grand Union. Well stores come and go I guess.
Let's see, we've covered being an asshole (the snowman) and being broke (stores going out of business), that leaves "tired". Well, how can you not get tired this time of year? I find the gray drab of winter along with all this hustle and bussle tiring.
Is it summer yet?
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a post about how terrible life is. On the contrary this is all about how good life is. The local government hasn't come and demolished the eyesore in my front yard yet (good thing too, I need my car!!!). Although everyone else is broke I continue to pay my bills and live as always (I plan to do so until I cannot, it only seems logical). Well, there is the tired thing, but I can solve that with a nap. :)
Is there any cheer to the holiday season any more? Not if you go by a lot of what is going on around you. But here at home we have a nice cozy Christmas atmosphere going on and Allura is excited to see what Santa brings her. (She thinks he is going to bring her a toy dog named Biscuit). We'll see about that.
Next time I think I might write about my new found love for guacamole. ^_^
