I have been taking my grandparent’s clothes to thrift stores for about 2 months now. Have made at least 10 trips, with a full trunk and backseat. I have been setting aside the nicer clothes for sale later. I decided to just take them to a resale shop today.
Considered having a yard sale, but summer is over and weather here gets kinda iffy in Fall. Plus, I just don’t want to deal with strangers traipsing thru my yard. I considered eBay, but selling “vintage” clothes online is hit and miss. A lot of the clothes don’t have labels, so not sure how I would have advertised them. I am not confident a listing of “vintage leather jacket” would go for much money.
And I verified this, it doesn’t.
So, a resale shop was final resort. I knew going in I would not get much, but something is better than nothing. There were some nice pieces like a women’s leather jacket, some cool men’s sweater vests, a Guess denim jacket, and other stuff. There was a Gucci gift bag and a Gucci purse, but the purse was a bit scuffed and I didn’t have any way to prove it was authentic. I mean, in hindsight, I could have listed it on eBay anyway and just seen what it went for, but I was getting antsy having all these clothes just sitting in the closet, taking up space.
So I took them to the shop and they gave me $121. They give 30% of what they plan to sale the clothes for, so they will take in $403, if everything sells. I wish they gave 50% or at least 40%, but again, something is better than nothing.
There are some consignment shops in town, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to deal with that. Just waiting around on off chance the stuff sells seems weird. The 2 “upscale” consignment shops nearest me offer 45%, but eh. I have some fur coats, and some nice wool overcoats I can take there later, so I’ll try that.
In addition to the $121 I made today, I got a letter from my old job. The school closed August 26, and the owner sent the staff two weeks’ severance pay. I was only part time, so I got $298, but wow. I was not expecting that at all! It will help a lot since the estate is still not closed.
Hopefully it will be by end of month, cos I need money. I won’t get school money until November, and have sold everything I want to on eBay. Anything I else I sell would be toys I actually want, so not willing to do that yet.
But even after the inheritance comes in, I might sell some of my toys. They don’t hold as much sentiment for me as they used to. I have been looking them over the past few weeks, trying to decide which ones I really like, mean something to me, and which just look cool. Ever since I sold my Pursuit of Cobra collection, toy collecting just hasn’t felt the same to me. Doesn’t hold the same draw.
So, I need to do some soul searching and decide if I will stick with it or not.
I used my insurance to go to the dentist. They want to pull 4 teeth, give me a root canal in a decaying tooth, and give me fillings in quite a few others. The root canal is $600, and the extractions are wisdom teeth and the root of one that fell out a few years ago. Don’t know how much the extractions will cost, but the fillings are covered.
I also signed up for therapy. Have not been in therapy since 2002, and I have sorely missed it. I found an office thru a recommendation from a new acquaintance, so hopefully it works out. Thankfully, they take my insurance, so that’s great.
Dating has sucked. I went back to OKC and randomly met a really great girl, but she stopped talking to me last week. Said she was having a bad period so cancelled our first date and has not replied to any texts since. I will give her another week before texting again and asking if she has moved on.
She’s really wonderful. Smart, compassionate, thoughtful, artistic, and very pretty. I was lucky to meet her and it is typical that such a wonderful woman would not actually be interested in me.
Happens every time.
But at least I have an extra $417. That’s cool.
