Finished watching season 2 of "Buffy" the other day. My, how things do change! Nearly everything I said in my last Buffy installment needs to be amended. So
here we go, with of course spoilers.
I call Oz normal and he turns out to be a werewolf! And possibly the sweetest, cutest werewolf I've ever seen (followed closely by Professor Lupin, of course). I know where Willow's affections will generally lie in future seasons--I saw a bit of an episode once on TV and was a bit startled at who she was kissing--but I do hope Oz gets to stay and play for a while. The more I see of Seth Green, the more I *heart* him.
I call Cordelia annoying and she redeems herself by telling off her friends and taking Xander's arm in public. And by the way, the episode where Xander and Amy whip up the love potion that goes horribly wrong and makes all the women in town lust after him--that was beautiful. Hilarious but with the usual undercurrent of slightly-scary-ness. I also really like the looks of the gal who plays Amy. Something quite witchy in her eyes, like the actresses of "Bewitched" or Kim Novak in "Bell, Book, and Candle."
I call the Buffy/Angel relationship cute and then he loses his soul and turns into a raging jerk. Poor Buffster. But, uh, I see what someone meant about Boreanaz not being able to do an Irish accent. I will still check out the "Angel" series eventually, but as a character he's starting to interest me less. However, one of the very best episodes, I thought, was the one where he kills Miss Calendar. I did NOT see that coming. Very powerful--and oy, poor Giles! The swelling opera music as he discovers her, among the roses and the candles...whew.
I call Drusilla annoying and then she starts amusing me more and more. She has hung around longer than I expected, and I'm minding less than I expected. When she hypnotizes Giles, who takes her for Miss Calendar and spends a few minutes making out with her as Spike and Angel watch in bemusement--well, that's just another example of Whedon's genius for twisted voyeuristic fun. :D
And Spike. Spike, Spike, Spike. I really like Spike. Plus, I was actually surprised to view the DVD interviews and see that James Marsters and Juliet Landau aren't British. The Sid-and-Nancy accents had me fooled. I like his alliance with Buffy, against Destroying-the-World!Angel, in the season finale--especially the one silly moment where he and Buffy's mom are sitting in the living room in awkward silence while Buffy's in the kitchen.
And now Buffy's mom knows she kills vampires. Hmm. Well, we'll see how that plays out.
My head is stuffed with so many great moments, I'm sure I missed mentioning dozens. So feel free to post comments with "Oh! And what about the part where ___?"
