Bob Newhart has died at 94. A good run, but still sad. One of the greats of comedy. Sadly, younger generations only knew him as Papa in Elf.

Lately I've been watching clips of 90s/00s shows, mainly comedy because I really need to laugh. I completely missed The Drew Carey Show when it first aired, because I always had choir on Wednesday night. I really missed out. It's hilarious! And it holds up pretty well 20 years after it ended. Matthew Perry just died. He was only 54, two years older than me. I was only a casual watcher of Friends, but I always liked Chandler. He had a really tough time with his alcohol and drug addictions and overcoming them. He apparently drowned in a hot tub. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a heart attack and drowned before he could get help. ( Read more... )

Last night there were terrible wildfires in and near Boulder, Colorado. The entire towns of Superior and Louisville (where my mom worked) and parts of Broomfield were evacuated. The evacuations have been lifted, but many homes and businesses were damaged or lost. Thankfully, no deaths or serious injuries were reported! My old neighborhood was in ( Read more... )

Caroll Spinney, the legendary puppeteer behind Sesame Street's Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, has died at age 85. So many children grew up enchanted by his work. Sesame Street wouldn't have been what it was without Spinney's collaboration with Jim Henson ( Read more... )

My fellow Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans, we have lost Aron Eisenberg. I am gutted. He loved his fans and I enjoyed interacting with him on Facebook (he liked a few of my posts!). Round two of chemo is done! It went very well today. Almost no pain or discomfort- except for a bit of trouble setting up the port, an extra hour of pre-chemo meds, restless legs and feet, and a brief hot flash early in the Taxol infusion. That freaked my mom out more than me. Also, I had to pee a lot. I was given more saline solution than usual. I ( Read more... )
