Wow, the networks went on quite the killing spree this week, huh? Agent Carter, Castle, Galavant, The Grinder, Grandfathered, Nashville, The Muppets, etc. I haven't watched Castle on a regular basis in years, but I have to admit, I was kind of glad it got cancelled after it unceremoniously dumped Stana Katic for a possible S9. When the vast majority of the fandom of a series is built around the chemistry of the lead characters, I don't really understand the wisdom of deciding to go on without one of those characters. Anyway, apparently someone at ABC realized that it WASN'T wise and pulled the plug, so good for them. It's too bad that no one at Fox got the hint, because they renewed Sleepy Hollow after killing off Abbie, which suggests that the programming department there is under some kind of ancient curse that forces them to keep renewing it no matter what, I assume to avert an apocalypse. In which case, I guess we should all be thanking Fox? ...Nah.
I watched a few of these shows, notably Agent Carter, which I enjoyed but never quite fell in love with the way I wanted to. My favorite of these was actually probably Galavant, which I found deeply silly but very charming. It had a satisfying ending though, and it was probably a miracle that it got two seasons, so I'm just happy that it lasted for as long as it did.
I'm not invested in very many shows these days. I still watch Arrow, The Flash, and Elementary, but in all cases it's more out of habit and a lack of anything else I want to watch. Elementary is probably the best of the three, but the plots are almost never good enough for the characters, who deserve better. Arrow got off to a solid start at the beginning of the season, but lost me big time with the contrived, manufactured Oliver/Felicity break-up. It's not even that I ship them hardcore (I mean, they'll get back together eventually), it was just boring and predictable and took up too much screen time, and did I already say contrived? Because it was. And The Flash is pretty boring in my opinion (and WEIRDLY patriarchal), but there's nothing else on Tuesday nights at 8:00 that I want to watch, so I keep tuning in.
I don't hate everything! I did straight up love the second season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The first three episodes were fairly weak, but the way the second half of the season really leaned into exploring Kimmy's trauma - while still keeping to the show's joke-a-minute rhythms - was great. I am also really enjoying Samantha Bee's new show. I love how specifically, even angrily, feminist it is, while also being hilarious.
Hey, how about a meme? Comment with a fandom (or more than one) and I'll answer:
The character I least understand
Interactions I enjoyed the most
The character who scares me the most
The character who is mostly like me
Hottest looks character
One thing I dislike about my fave character
One thing I like about my hated character
A quote or scene that haunts me
A death that left me indifferent
