Day 11 - A show that disappointed you

Gossip Girl.

Gossip Girl is probably the show that got me started on internet forums and fanfiction and making icons and livejournal and I guess everything fandomy. And it was so good when it started. The story arcs weren't just thrown together last minute, and people weren't hooking up with some one new every other week, and the characters weren't so damn stupid! All through season 1 this was my favourite show, and Blair and Dan were probably my favourite characters in anything ever. And Chuck and Blair were my OTP of all OTP's.

Then came season 2 and everything sort of got shit. The writing got sloppy, and half the stories were just to cause ~drama and to get back the whole ~racy angle they used to have, and it just didn't work. The characters got really stupid, and everything I used to love about them just sort of went away and I just hated every one of them. And they gave Vanessa WAY too much screen time for anyone's pleasure. They dragged out Chuck and Blair and kept making Dan and Serena break-up and make-up and it was just getting annoying.

Season 3 was even worse. Finally CB fans got what they wanted, only it was in a milisecond in every other episode. And Serena lost all her purpose except for showing off her boobs. And they had that one good episode where Nate punched Tripp in the face, which is when I started liking Nate (I had a very deep hatred for him before this). And Jenny had a good story line with Damien Dalgaard who is back which I love. But then, after that one good episode, they brought back Serena/Dan AGAIN, which ruined my Nate/Serena loveliness. And they had Chuck sell Blair to his uncle which was just...Don't get me started on that, I have never found anything as sickening as that. And then Blair didn't dump him which was ridiculous. Instead of being a HBIC we all used to love she was whiny and weak! And things just got really sucky.

This season, (yes I'm still watching), has improved slightly. But only because I've stopped expecting anything from this show. Now I watch it for nostalgia's sake. And I actually rather like some of the stories this season. I liked Juliet's arc, and every time Jenny came back. And I like what they've done with Chuck and Blair so far. And Dan and Blair! And it's strange to think that I'm actually looking forward to it's return in January.

It still sucks, and it's so sad to think what this show used to be and see where it is now, but I can't ever really give up on Gossip Girl. It was my first obsession, and I'd go online every night to try and find more spoilers because I couldn't wait an entire week and was completely addicted. It's sad to think where it's ended up. It's like a friend who I was really close with as a child but who I've grown apart from because I realized how stupid she really was. Still, I don't think anything can make me ever really stop watching Gossip Girl.
