Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving
I was going to say Glee, but Glee has disappointed me in so many ways that I'm not sure I can. So instead let's talk Vampire Diaries.
I hate the vampire fad. Nothing has been more annoying than vampires being on everything! And I'm not even going to start about Twilight because that rant will never end. So yeah, for a while I boycotted vampires, because...UGH! And that included this show, which looked cheesy and lame, and basically CW's crappy Twilight rip-off.
But then, something drove me to watch it. I can't remember what. I think it was fanvid's of Damon Salvatore on Youtube. I saw a few scenes on Youtube and it was a bit smarter than I expected so I spent a weekend watching the first 11 episodes.
I think all TVD fans can admit that the first few episodes were crap, but after they get over the fact that they're a CW show and get rid of those weird diary entries by Stefan and Elena it got really good! The characters were smart and lovable, and they actually had some really interesating storylines that weren't all about Stefan and Elena's ~deep~ wuv. The characters had depth, and good qualities. And all the mythology stuff is so interesting. I love this sort of stuff!
Not to mention all the immensely attractive actors on this show. And all the hot ships. And seriously, there is a LOT of ships. I'm primarily Damon/Elena but I like Damon/Caroline, Damon/Alaric, Alaric/Jenna, Jeremy/Anna, Matt/Caroline, Caroline/Tyler, Matt/Katherine, Stefan/Katherine, Stefan/Caroline, Stefan/Elena, Stefan/Anything that moves or breathes. And it's awesome!
And the suspense in this show. The amount of cliffhangers in the season finale. I think there was like 7 or 8. I mean holy wow! And the plot moves along quickly so you don't get bored, but not so quick that you're like 'wait, what?' And just SO MUCH happens! And it's awesome!
So yeah, I've given up boycotting vampires because of this. Clearly there's an exception to every rule. Also, one of the producer's produced Dawson's Creek, and c'mon, who doesn't love some Dawson's Creek?
