My Jacob is 13 years old today.... I have 2 teenage boys!!! Wow that is hard to believe. Took him and the family out to birthday dinner... Tony couldn't stop text messaging... I looked at my phone bill for last month and tony had 870 text messages...

Lisa and I went up to springs today to have some chipotle (its my belated birthday trip/lunch). Was delicious... and the good conversation was heavenly...

After we came home I went to tony's parent teacher conferences. He did good except for his advanced pottery class. He got an F. This poor teacher felt so bad giving him an F. She said she kept waking up thinking she should change it because she likes him and didn't want to do that to him but it wasn't fair to the students who had done the required amount of work (this class is self directed). And tony only likes the cappuchino (sp?) glaze and it wasn't working so he didn't want to glaze his stuff in anything else. So he just didn't work. I was glad to see though that he took responsibility for earning the f. The teacher felt so bad and he told her not to because that was what he earned and it wouldn't happen again. He didn't immediately put her on his list of hated teachers, she's still his favorite.

As we were walking the halls from class to class, it was apparent (and always has been) that one of the factors that separates Tony from the other kids is that he is respectful to teachers and students alike. I was telling him that I was proud because that is a reflection of where we place our values and respecting others is where I place a lot of value. I am disappointed about the F but I would be more disappointed if he had gotten an A but the teacher had told me he was very disrespectful to her.

Sophia's conference was yesterday. Hers went well also. Her teacher is working on getting her to focus (which is hard for her, she is a bouncing bundle of joyous energy). He is very understanding and doesn't expect her to sit still during the entire day, but when it is important she needs to be able to sit still and pay attention. It is important, I agree. She is doing well and we both have seen improvements in her work and behavior. He made her very proud when he told her he was putting her on the challenging spelling words..." harder words for smarter kids" The girl can do some spelling!! She brightens up his classroom and she is a joy to teach... awww.... I knew I liked this teacher.... and her nickname apparently is Sophia Loren (of course she doesn't have a clue who that is).

Jacob's conferences were not that great. His work was but it was crowded and the teachers were giving long conferences when they should have been giving short ones (because of the amount of people). So we didn't get to see all the teachers before conference time was done. It was very disappointing that I didn't get to talk to them
