Gridlock goodness...

Apr 15, 2007 14:46

It's been a while since I've gotten that emotional at Doctor Who, and Lord knows Gridlock did not disappoint.

Would've loved to see a bit more of Novice Hame, she's grown up a lot since the comedy of errors that was New Earth. But I'm just prejudiced since I'm a cat lover. And Ardal O'Hanlon was adorable with whiskers, frankly.

But onto the meat of the episode - the Face of Boe. He's plastic/CGI, he didn't even speak in the first episode he appeared in, he's had all of seven lines during the new series...and I was fighting back the tears as soon as Hame and the Doctor teleported to the Senate. I didn't risk crying properly since the ridicule from others watching would have been monumental.

Most of us already knew what the great secret would be, but it's nice to get it properly confirmed, and it makes a stronger case for the possibility of the Master returning. But according to the Doctor Who Confidential episode right after, David Tennant said that the Face wasn't lying, but the Doctor isn't wrong about being the last of the Time Lords either. So hmmm.

But as soon as he went on to describe Gallifrey...that was it. I was just trying to make sure I held in the sniffles when I started crying. But it was also that he described his homeworld, but still can't name it outright. Rose never knew it, and it looks like Martha might not know it either. Maybe for him, naming Gallifrey is like the Carrionites naming Rose, but in an even more painful sense since Rose is still alive somewhere. For the Doctor, Gallifrey is gone, and there's no chance of it ever coming back.

And yes, a plot bunny has formed in my head along these lines. Hence the reason I stayed up til 4:30 writing it and eating skipped chocolate cake.

Much kudos to Belic,

implode666 in the legs with a Coke bottle when the mockery started.
