Hell’s Kitchen
I didn’t bother to post anything about this week’s Hell’s Kitchen after the show because I don’t really consider that episode finished yet. I thought I better jot down some rough notes, though.
- I’m not all that irritated with Julia crying, though I think she needs to put it behind her quickly and forge ahead and remember GRRRR is sending her to school when all this is done, so she’s probably getting a better prize than the "winner."
-Rock disorganized and confused & Bonnie knowing just what she wants? Hmmmm. I think that’s misdirection.
-Do like Bonnie’s concept better, but then my silver, china, and crystal are all mismatched on purpose. We used to have a restaurant here called Enigma. They also kept irregular hours. But they had great food. I don’t think it’s still open.
-Challenge - Looked pretty set up to get close to a tie to me. I think Rock’s dish sounded odd, but then I don’t really like to mix types of meat. That’s just a personal weirdness I have. I’d rather have just the crab cake or just the fried chicken. Pasta with shrimp, though? Mmmmm.
I’m still calling Rock for the win.
General Summer TV Stuff
All my summer shows are ending! Boo! One more week of HK, and I think only 2 more of SYTYCD, including this week.
There are a couple of Fall shows that look pretty good to me, like New Amsterdam and, hmmm, I think there is at least one more but I can’t think of what it is now.
American Idol held auditions in Dallas this week, at Texas Stadium. It caused huge traffic jams of course and the local FOX station’s news crew covered all the folks passing out from heat exhaustion. I can’t imagine standing out in the 95 - 100 degree heat all day long in a huge crowd before a singing audition. It sounded like there wasn’t sufficient water, too. Despite the conditions, I kind of wish I’d been able to go - not to audition myself as I haven’t sung for serious in a long, long time, but just to see the process.
SYTYCD
I can honestly say I enjoyed all of the dances last night, even the Doriana Disco. I do wish there had been a bit more closed-hold dancing in the waltz, though the American Smooth Waltz does allow for more open figures than the International version of the dance. Still, I thought it was beautifully danced. Also loved the table dance Sabra and Neil did.
I think it’s going to be really close this week, but I’m guessing Danny and Lauren are both in the most danger. Neither of them has built the huge fanbases that their competitors have and disco is often a vote-killer. I think that’s too bad, because I enjoy Lauren for the wank she creates on TwoP and IMO Danny is hands down the best dancer in the competition.
I also had a revelation last night. I finally saw some Pasha Hawtness. I’ve always thought he was charming and a wonderful dancer (both a great ballroom dancer and more versatile than most) but last night some of the hotness others see was there in that hip hop they did first. This leads me to believe that the main reason I don’t find Pasha all that hot is his hair. And since Dmitry has the exact hair I find hot and I see about 1,000% difference in hotness between the two of them, despite their both being Russian Latin ballroom dancers, I’m almost certain it’s a hair issue. Shallow, I know, but sadly true. Hair on guys is just kind of a big thing with me. Feel free to LOL at me over it.
I also watched 3 episodes of Season 1 of Project Runway on dvd. I like it, a lot! I sort of want to punch a few of them, especially Wendy Pepper and that Starr chick. But Starr is gone as of the third episode, so I won’t injury my hand punching my TV. Looking ahead, it appears that Wendy makes it to the final. I better learn to love to hate her quickly. So far I’m pretty okay with the rest of them. Some of their outfits haven’t been all that great, but some of them have been kind of awesome.
The only dress that really stood out for me from the first challenge was Austin’s corn husk dress. I liked the design of the weave in the bodice on that one.
The outfits from the second really didn’t stand out to me, except Jay’s because of the cool graffiti and the horror of Starr’s “cancer dress.” Ugh. Oh, and Kara Saun’s very cool outfit. I wasn’t at all surprised it won the challenge.
I absolutely adored Jay’s Chrysler-Building dress in ep 3. The detail work on the bodice was amazing, and I think he has a wonderful sense of design together with the skills to execute it. I also loved Austin’s rosy afternoon party dress, but it was out of the wrong decade (very, very 50s and not at all 30s) to fit the Banana Republic collection. I love Kara Saun and most of her outfits.
I was kind of sad Mario was sent home in ep 2, but that was totally for shallow reasons because I thought he was a cutie pie. I really can’t argue with the judges’ decision. I kind of can argue with the judges decision to give Wendy the win in ep 3. I thought that dress was awful and frumpy and boring. The lines were all wrong, the skirt was too short and it made the person wearing it, even though she was a model, look dumpy, frumpy, and old. And I love navy blue, so the color wasn’t an issue. I did kind of like the cape thingy though. Still, I would have given Jay the win, but I understand the dress was probably too complicated for a ready-to-wear outfit like BR to include in their line.
There’s a Cowboy game on tonight, so no results show, which means next Monday will be both the HK finale and the semi-final results show for SYTYCD. Big night!
My cat kept waking me up last night, about every half hour. It was really irritating. I ended up putting pillows around myself to kind of protect me from him. I think he may be mad at me now, but darn it, I have to sleep!!
