I feel like a huge part of my life is coming to a close. Several years ago I joined a mailing list focused on a very specific portion of British history. The list went through many ups and downs, created friendships and heated debates and inspired numerous now-published books. But it has gone almost completely silent and the list owner announced this week that it will be closing in a few days. I can’t help being very sad about this, even though I agree with everyone involved that the time has come.
On to something much more frivolous...
Before I go to a cut, do any of you who are willing to admit you watch Dancing with the Stars know if the teams get to choose their own music or if it is foisted upon them?
Last night was a horrible mess except for Joey and Kym’s dance. The worst dance was Leeza and Tony’s paso doble to You Give Love a Bad Name. My gawd that sucked mightily! Perhaps my loathing of ballroom dance and figure skating choreographed to rock music played a part in my reaction to it, but really, it was just awful!! That was one of the worst dances I have ever seen in my entire life, including every bad dance I’ve ever seen at a wedding reception. I had nightmares about her creepy face and smile and horror-movie perfect body in that awful fetishwear clunking around stiffly to Poison and Metallic. Not kidding. I really did! I didn’t like her before, but now I have actual fear and loathing when I think of her.
The waltzes were all pretty much okay, but all the pasos except Joey and Kym’s were just bad. Bad, bad, bad. BAD!!! And I wish they hadn’t used contemporary music for the waltzes, either. I think that’s why I don’t usually watch this show. I just cannot stand most of the music they dance to. Oh, and the one dance that wasn’t to rock/pop music was not so great as well - Laila and Maksim’s paso was set to music that ironically is about toreadors but doesn’t have the correct rhythm for a paso doble. Go figure. Ack ... if I keep talking about this show I’m going to have a meltdown. I want to like this show for its cheesiness and silliness, and there are about four couples I like, and I hope they do well, but I just am wigged out over the way this show is presented. Gah! Also, and I do feel bad about saying this, but I kind of feel like it must be said, the band isn’t very good and the singers are really not good. I would hate to have to dance to those messes. :(
