Easter Weekend/Visiting with my Sister:

Friday Afternoon/Evening -

A came over around 5ish. She hadn’t been able to get hold of my dad. Apparently he and his wife had gone to the retirement center’s happy hour and then to dinner. For reasons neither A nor I can divine, his wife thought A wasn’t coming until Sunday! So they were not expecting to see us on Friday and had their usual dinner.

So A and her boyfriend (hereinafter “DM”) came in for a brief visit at my condo and met D. He was sitting all prince-like on his favorite couch pillow and when they came into the living room, he didn’t run away. I don’t think he was too surprised/scared to run, either. He acted like he was completely relaxed with the situation (and of course as though a bunch of mere humans had come to pay him obeisance).

Then, the three of us went PVN to visit with them and then went on to dinner afterwards at Ojeda’s. It was DM’s first TexMex. He had fajitas. A and I both had the most delicious thing ever - fajita enchiladas. Trust me, they were heavenly. Their rental car had one of those nifty GPS thingies in it, and we let it guide us to the restaurant, but it tried to send us through a closed tollbooth on the way back, so we went mostly are own way, with the thing still on and trying to navigate for us despite our ignoring it and taking routes contrary to those it was suggesting. It actually got a bit testy with us!

Saturday -

D and I slept in a little, because I knew he was miffed with me and wasn’t going to get much time with me the rest of the day. In the afternoon, A treated me to a fabulous facial at the Crescent’s spa. There was a little bit of afternoon left, so A and I took DM on a little mini tour of Dallas and showed him our old stomping grounds, including the house we grew up in, which now has a historic preservation marker on it. We tried to show him flowers, but due to the weird weather we are having, the azaleas really haven’t bloomed yet and there wasn’t much to show him.

The hotel had upgraded them to a suite, so A decided it would be fun for all of us to have dinner in their room. And it was very nice. Way too much food, though. Shrimp and crab cocktail, smoked salmon, salad, filets, steak fries, herbed rice, asparagus, green beans, followed by an assortment of desserts. All of it was excellent and we were all absolutely stuffed.

Sunday -

Sunday we had lunch at the French Room at the Adolphus. Lobster first course, then lamb then various desserts (I had creme brulee, which is my favorite). Fabulous food, and thank goodness reasonably sized portions. Then I went home and collapsed with D.

So, we mostly spent the whole weekend talking and eating. It was good, but I’ll all stuffed and bloated now. Still, it was a very nice visit. DM seems like a really good guy and A seems very happy with them, so yay for that!

So, the weekend was mostly about food and talking, both of which were wonderful.

I have a fun little Easter coincidence to share with ya’ll, but it will have to wait until I get home because it involves a graphic.

Movies, Generally:

After discussion with my sister, I finally decided I can return Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants back to Netflix unwatched. I realized I only put it on my queue because the advertising for it convinced me I was supposed to watch it whether I wanted to or not, despite also portraying it as a blatently gooey and emotionally manipulative chick flick. So, back it goes. Tomorrow. I forgot to put it in my bag this morning. I hope that once I’ve got it off my unwatched movie pile, I’ll feel free to watch Wonderboys and Lost in Translation and get back to moving through my queue.

DM and I discussed Office Space and the fact that A hadn’t seen that movie until DM introduced her to it, and she has still not seen The Princess Bride. DM promised to rectify that problem as soon as they got back home. Also, he kept recommending Lone Star, so I think I’m going to have to add that to my queue.

Amazing Race:

At 7:42 according to my VCR clock, I thought, “Huh. Joyce & Uchenna must still be stuck in the Frankfurt airport." It is a bit of a funny coincidence that they were eliminated due to missing a flight this time. Frankfurt is a super-busy airport, and definitely not one you want a tight connection in. Not a big surprise they didn’t make the second flight.

It seems weird to have Mirna be a little less irritating. I originally didn’t mind Eric and Danielle that much, but after their reaction to the yield, they are dead to me. *breaks their plate* (I bet only earthseed gets that reference...) I don’t like the yield. I wish it wasn’t part of the race. However, it is part of the race, so it is perfectly legitimate and honorable for a team to use it on another team. So just STFU Eric and Danielle and Mirna and Charla. Taking that kind of thing personally is stupid and immature and poor sportsmanship. And I don’t care if Eric’s line was a joke from a Will Farrell movie. It was in poor taste, immature, and again, poor sportsmanship. And Danielle doesn't even have the excuse that she was joking around.

Danny and Oswald are even fabulous when bickering (Haaaating you!! Hee!), but that was a bit disconcerting, anyway, and I do wonder if killer fatigue is setting in. I hope not too much. Dustin and Kandice continue to be awesome!!! I just love them more and more each week. Kuala Lumpur is lovely. I’d like to visit it someday. And the greeter! Wow was she gorgeous! I can’t believe anyone chose/stuck with the cookie task. The batik thing was probably hot, but it didn’t look terribly difficult. The recycling roadblock looked like it would be awful heaped on top of how tired they must be at this point. I think next leg will be a non-elim and that we will see major killer fatigue in all the teams.

drkcherry has asked me what asparagus tastes like. I don’t know how to describe it! Can any of you help?
