Very briefly because I have been and I still am very busy.
Cleaning carpets with my new steamer thing is a blast. Didn’t get all the stains out, but it helped and the carpets look and smell much better.
Garden’s coming along nicely. I have lisianthus in bloom (I took pictures!). About to bloom: snapdragons, salvia, possibly a petunia or two. The coleus and lobelia finally came up. Unfortunately we have a cold front coming through this weekend. I may have to bring some of them inside. And speaking of inside plants, my rose is in bloom and has two buds. One of the geraniums is about to bloom and the violets are doing well.
D is being extra clingy this week. Not sure if it’s because the carpet cleaning monster came out earlier this week or what.
Probably won’t be around at all this weekend. We’re going out to dinner both Friday and Saturday night and A insisted on everyone joining her at the spa on Saturday afternoon, so I let her book a facial for me. And then Sunday is Easter lunch.
It is April 5 and NOAA is forecasting light snow for parts of northwest Texas this weekend!!!
Amazing Race
Gah! It’s been too long and I barely remember it. Oh, right, Poland. All the piano stuff was very, very cool. Loved!!! the piano tuning task!! More transportation difficulties. Glad they paid respects at Auschwitz rather than having a task there. Didn’t like the bus/intersection bunching. But the Guidos being out was a foregone conclusion, so no surprises there.
American Idol
Michael Buble .... um... I have listened to a couple of his recordings and they’re nice enough and enjoyable entertainment, but that performance was horrible. I partially blame the sound crew, as I think they’ve screwed up every guest host’s performance, as well as several of the contestants and since it’s so consistent I can’t give them a pass any more. I don’t think it’s intentional, I just think they’re doing a crappy job and/or have some bad equipment or have it set incorrectly or something.
As for the contest part of the show...
Um. Well. I was never a Gina fan. I really don’t get the Gina love at all, either from last go round or this one. She really blew some of her performances. Had she actually been a “rawker chick” I’d get it a bit more, but she never was anything close to that. And she’s been a bit bitchy to the judges on several occasions, and it hasn’t come off well at all. I do think some responsibility for her being voted off rests with the judges because they encouraged her into the faux “rawker” box and then were such asshats to Haley (who I voted for approximately 600 times on Tuesday night, so go ahead and blame me if you want. I’ll vote for her that many times next week, too.).
Still not surprised to see her go, though. I hope she drops the faux rock thing and becomes the adult contemporary artist she really is inside. (Had she been singing Sarah MacLachlan and Loreena McKinnit and Natalie Merchant style stuff along, I honestly believe she’d still be with us. And she could have been a fairly alternative version of adult contemporary, which I think would have suited her quite well. She was already semi-dressing the part and very much singing the part.) She also needs to lose the pink stripe in her hair, get rid of the nasty tongue piercing (Gah! Who would go on a singing show with a tongue piercing in?! Stupid!!! It ruined her performances and made it impossible for her to get any votes from people opposed to body modification and/or who don’t want to know about her sexual preferences! Including me! Gah!!!!!) and dress more appropriately. Probably tone up a bit, as well. If she did all that, I think she could have a successful career as a performer. She does have a very nice adult contemporary voice, and when she wants to she can put genuine, credible emotion behind it.
I did think she was very classy there at the end, both with her thanks to her fans and her sing out. And really, I do wish her success. I just think she’s gone in the wrong direction and needs to get back to what she really is.
Conspiracy Theorizing/Speculation
Looking around at a variety of sites, including TWOP, Idol Forums, co-workers, bookies, spoilers and Dial Idol, I don’t think LaKisha is going to be the “shocking” elimination anymore. It’s not that I don’t think she’ll be eliminated soon. I do. I just don’t think anyone will be shocked by it. She’s consistently drifting downward in the ratings and the common refrain among posters last week was “I’m off the LaKisha love train,” and this week is “she’ll be gone soon.”
Which means someone else’s elimination will have to be the real shocker for the storyline to play out, if you believe in grassy knollism. I’m okay with that as long as it’s not Jordin or Blake, but those are the two I fear for, most.
Atthis point I am completely resigned to the fact that Sanjaya is here to stay. I’m on the verge joining with the handful of people who are going for a Sanjaya/Haley final two. Except I really want Blake in the final two. Maybe a Sanjaya/Blake final two. It would just really be hilarious. And then this show needs a massive overhaul. Or at least to own up to what it really is.
ANTM
They’ve been gunning for poor Sarah since the beginning. Still, I’ll miss her. Not surprised they picked Whitney over her, though. From what I’ve heard Tyra’s really working to have a plus size model win. Right now I’d guess either she or Dionne win the whole thing. And I think Whitney is Tyra’s pick and Dionne is Most of the Rest of the World’s. When did Tyra ever care what the rest of us think? I love Britney, but I suspect she’s going to be a “shocking” elimination before the final two. Do I think Renee will be a nicer girl after Tyra’s little chat with everyone? Hahahahahahaha! Jael bugs me. Sometimes Jaslene does, too. Thank goodness they are doing something about Britney’s awful hair! And the big surprise of the show? Natasha had some good pics, and they were all right side up!
