It's another lull between otherwise massive, unrelenting bursts of rain. Not sure anymore what the status is on the storm-watch. I had to stop checking Twitter because seeing the #MMDA updates on flash floods and water-levels rising in various parts of the city made me tense. So far, so good over here. There are pockets of flooding, but these are nowhere near my immediate area. So far, everyone I care about is accounted for.

I'm the eldest of three and the only girl; which means that I've had to either steamroll my way through or apply subversive tactics past the double-standard that parental units tend to attribute to their little girls. This was not always easy because navigating the parent-child relationship towards the way we are now is tricky business -- it sometimes still is -- so it is a victory to know that they respect me as someone who can handle herself and whatever situation I manage to find myself in.
I own one dog but take care of two. You will hear me refer to them as the babies-- Punch is a princess-type Shih Tzu who believes he is a human being, my eldest child and the one true heir. He also aspires to be a football superstar \o/ ; Porkchop is a Schweenie who belongs to the elder of my two younger brothers, is quite possibly a budding war-tactician and has the habit of chewing out shoes, shoelaces, my headphones, and the occasional laptop keyboard (err... don't ask).
Yes, I live with my parents. I once had some random person from who-knows-where-on-the-Internet drop in and criticize me for sharing the same roof with my folks given my age and I didn't care for it at all. I love my family and in spite of our ups and downs the one thing that I am grateful for every single day that I breathe is that I have them to come home to. Not everyone is that lucky, so I make sure to say thank you to the Universe for meal times together, for squabbles and petty fights, for stressing over managing expenses and that after all that and then some -- that we have come out on the other side maybe a little frayed, a little worn, but bound tighter together in love for it.
I was raised and schooled in environments that celebrated the Arts and Humanities. My elementary and high school education supplied me with experiences like partaking in Traditions, intensive productions, an exposure to Women's Issues, Environmental and Social concerns and standing up for what you believe in. My childhood memories are dominated by summer dance workshops and piano recitals, and this has made me very much at home in a theatre or a stage, out under the spotlight, there in the audience and yes, most especially behind the wings. I will readily admit that I often wish that I still had the luxury to do things like that even now, which I don't; and that if the chance were offered to me and I didn't have other pressing concerns to hold me back, I would jump at the opportunity in less than a heartbeat.
I sing, play the piano and write/compose music. The dream and aspiration is to get my work out there. It's not... as easy as it looks, so instead I opt to share what I manage to get down in passable mediums on my Tumblr account. I am also proud to say that I have training in various forms of dance but let's not go there I have not danced in ages /cry.
I write. A ton or so I tell myself asdfkjhafgkjh. And for a wide range of... subjects/fandoms/things. This naturally means that I have a Writing To-Do List that is quite possibly longer than the network of streets that make up the city I live in. Not to worry! I swear I will get around to it! ...err. Ummm... what else... OH! I have been navigating the channels of the Internet since 1997. This is roughly about the same length of time that I have been popping in and out of various fandoms (though usually these were relatively small); on a related note... while I am no authority on fandom itself, there is one thing that I tend to get really nostalgic about: I kind of feel that fandom used to be so much nicer (I had the pleasure of participating had people who were amazing, awe-inspiring and incredibly welcoming).
I am throwing this up here because if there is one thing that rubs me the wrong way, it is unnecessary fandom wank (when is it ever necessary? idk) -- but we will not go into great detail.
All you need to know is that for me, Fandom = Awesome Potential for Infinite Levels of FUN. And when I say fun, I mean to encompass anything and everything from passionate discussions over the canon source material; TO delving into utter and thoroughly mind-blowing CRACK brought on by IDK... stuff?!??; TO venturing into oftentimes unpopular-in-fandom pastimes such as AUs and OCs and LULZ that you will only 'get' if you know the context.
Not your thing? That's cool by me. We can always talk about something else that is more up your alley :)
/firm believer that 'fun' should never stop being part of the equation
I love making new friends and have a penchant for acquiring 'family members'. I love people; I find that you learn a lot just by making conversation yes, I sometimes chat up people while waiting in line I AM NOT CREEPY I SWEAR I JUST ASDFGKJH and have been repeatedly told that I know too many people aslfkjhsdf OwO I am sorry? The Six Degress of Separation Theory has worked. A lot. I tell myself this is a good thing. I am pretty sure it is. Or should be. ;u;
I try to consistently update LJ, if life permits. I do this because in the last 2-3 years I've been sort of... on and off the Internet due to personal, internal struggles that have been known to drive me away from social contact in varying forms. My journal archive can attest that there is a notable spike of activity within the period of time that my paid account is renewed and my icons are made available. This is because (a) icons = shiny, and (b) because I also get very asdflkjhasdflkjh at the fact that if I don't post, it's like I'm taking for granted/wasting the gift given by a friend (Hi Bhex dreamlessness ilu? LOL what is Techniques To Get Noey Alive and Interacting).
My posts vary from bullets to full-blown tldr; musings. I use LJ-cuts often to hide lengthy posts that people may prefer to scroll past, or the occasional massive photo post. I write about a range of topics and I filter very little; that last bit is because I promised myself that I would try to be as transparent and as honest about myself and my life as is possible. The Internet is an amazing vehicle that bridges distance and time, allowing people to connect with other people who they might not have met otherwise. I am fully aware that there are asshole-y creepers out there who exploit it for their own sick inclinations, but this LJ is my little corner of the cyber frontier so I want it to be as genuine as I can make it. That said, while I may omit names (my workplace, for example) and some details, for the most part, everything you see here is everything you get.
...well. Maybe not the flail. But Em emothy is kind of remedying that because she thinks my need for maintaining some semblance of dignity is vastly overrated (my words, not hers).
