Doomed Tomatoes Originally uploaded by
mkwhite11 I had a wonderful weekend. Sunny, fun, lots of friends. Liz and I took Ollie and two dogs she was taking care of to Magnison Park Dog Beach and tossed for almost two hours. We sat in the back yard on Friday night with our book club, drank wine and ate homemade pizza until the sun set around 9:45.
On Saturday, we went to the Pike Place Market Street Festival and then Mark & Sze-lyn's going away party. The party was at a loft condo in South Lake Union with a nice roof deck. The night was gorgeous and a lot of friends were there.
When we got home, there was a party going on at our house, too ... which leads to the story behind this doomed little tomato plant:
I raised ten tomato plants from seeds in a window box. Three different kinds of tomatoes, one of which I saved from some amazing tomatoes I bought down at the Market. I moved them out into the garden a few days before Memorial Day weekend. They were experiencing a little shock from moving outdoors, but they seemed to be doing OK.
Until my downstairs neighbors had a party on Saturday night. Sunday morning, eight of these ten little tomato plants were just gone. The two remaining had been flattened into the ground. The joys of city living, I guess.
I replaced them this morning with starts from the garden center down the street.
On Sunday, Ray and I did a 40-mile bike ride, training for the STP. We'd be right on track if we didn't plan on being out of town the next three weekends in a row. We barbecued on the porch and had a nice walk with Ollie.
All told, it was a beautiful weekend
