...since I last posted!
I am now married and a resident of the sunflower state (Kansas). I live in a college town called "The Little Apple" because it is named Manhattan. MUCH smaller town than Indianapolis. My shopping excursions are quite limited and there is no Sephora or Ulta, except about 4 hours away in Kansas City, MO. Thank god for online shopping. LOL.
I quit my job in early June, then got married, while were were trying to get me packed and Mom's house remodeled for my niece and her family. We moved in August and my stuff didn't arrive for about 3 weeks, due to the moving company's supposedly not being able to find a driver to come out here. We ended up getting a refund for around half of the charges. Completely ridiculous.
We're still not totally unpacked. I hated packing and my grand-nieces, especially the 13-year-old, ended up doing most of it. I was stressed and unmotivated, too. Still feel unmotivated to UNpack, because we'll just have to start repacking in a few months. We're renting this house and our lease is up in August.
The wedding went well. The day was sunny and I felt happy. My best friend came with her family, and my husband's best friend attended too. As I might have mentioned, we just went downtown and got married at the City-County Building.
banazir and I were a few minutes late for when we decided to meet our friends downtown, but in some ways that was good. The judge who was performing the ceremonies had court cases in the morning, and if we had arrived early in the morning like I wanted to, we would have been waiting even longer. We had to sit for hours in various places, getting the right paperwork, waiting for court to be over, waiting for all the people signed in before us to get married, etc. My mom didn't go, and I ended up being glad she didn't, because she would've hated all the sitting and waiting.
The next day we had our celebration dinner with our friends who attended the wedding, one of my coworkers and her daughter, and my family. Two of my Canadian nephews were able to travel down to the States with my sister, and all of my other blood nieces, nephews and most of my grand-nieces and -nephews were able to be there. We took them to the Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant.
I kinda of doubt it, but if anyone wants to see pictures, please let me know and I'll give you my Facebook information. I posted pics there, but I'll have to add you.
Mom got moved to a retirement community, and it turns out she's very happy there. My niece and her family got moved into the house and most of the renovation work got done. My husband and I paid for repainting, a new fridge, and had the rest of the windows replaced. We also paid for new doors, and he and my niece and others worked on laying laminate and vinyl flooring.
banazir learned a lot more home improvement and physical labor tasks than he ever expected. LOL.
I still don't have a job, and may or may not try to get one. I haven't decided. Faculty or their family are allowed to take like 1 or 2 courses for free at the university he teaches at, but I don't know if there are really anything I want to take. I could take some random ones, as what my university calls "graduate non-degree" (don't know what his calls it), or maybe try for a 2nd Bachelor's or some kind of Master's. I really have no idea, as usual, what I want to be when I grow up. :P
I've finally had time, however, to start actually reading again, not just random manga, but real books, thick books, with just words. LOL. First thing I read was a pulpy vampire romance, but I liked it pretty well. There were a ton of the paranormal romance cliches, but the heroine was over 30 and divorced, which is refreshing from what I've seen in standard romances. I then read Little Bee, which I picked up locally at a store called Hastings, which we don't have in Indy. It's a little bit like a Borders or Barnes & Noble, but also with a huge video rental and sale section and that sells used as well as new books. I enjoyed Little Bee (called The Other Hand in the UK), but I understand the view of some of its critics.
Tonight I just finished Let Me In (aka Let the Right One In). It's a Swedish novel that was made into a movie there and then just had an American remake. The ads for the American movie were intriguing and when I saw that there was a book it was based on in the Waldenbooks in town, I decided to pick it up. Still haven't watched either movie, because I wanted to complete the book first. It's very brutal and disturbing, and not as much (for me) for the blood and gore of the vampiric sections, but for the horrible way most of the humans are. Many times, it was difficult for me to read, but I'm glad I finished it. There's even a happy ending, of a sort, which I didn't expect from the rest of the tone of the book, and because it's European. Happy endings are supposed to be so American, after all.
So...there you are. I hope to have more time to read lj again, but I seem to spend most of my online time on FB or just surfing or shopping.
I might write more later about my cat's condition, and how not-fun it was to drive with him for 13 hours, or about my increased depression...or not. Again, something I haven't decided.
I hope everyone is doing all right. Thanks for reading!
