Chapter 9

“Would you really continue to ignore me until we get our hands on those divorce papers?” Jin said to Takako after the director announces the first break of the day. After they had that argument in the press conference, they are back again to not-talking terms.

“Don’t you think it’s better this way?” she replied nonchalantly, entering her dressing room. Jin followed inside.

“Everyone in here is congratulating us about our relationship and it’s really not convincing with you acting cold with me.” Jin said, he looked at Takako who’s obviously ignoring him. “Seriously! You’re such a brat!” he screamed making the staff outside stopped to look at them.  “I’m sorry.” he apologizes to them and closed the door.

“I’m fed up with all this acting, Jin.” Takako said as she felt the tears in her eyes. “Let’s just stop this, I don’t want to do this anymore.” her voice is starting to break.

Jin knows she’s crying and he know that she’s been having a hard time, probably harder than what he feels. He made his way to her and sat on the empty chair beside her, “It’s hard, I know.” he said as he held her hands, “But I’m here, Takako. You can tell me everything. If you wanted to cry then cry your heart out to me. We’re in this together, we put ourselves into this mess then we’ll fight this together.”

Takako felt her heart wanted to jump out with what he said, those are the things she wanted to hear from him. But she knows it’s not the way she wanted it to be, she knows that he just wanted to be her friend but she wanted something else. She removed her hand from his and turned away, wiping her tears. She doesn’t want him to pity her, she’s helplessly in love again with him and the least thing she wanted is to be pitied by the man she loves.

“It’s not easy as that, Jin.” she said as she picked up a tissue paper on the table.

“It’s easy if you trust me.” he replied. Jin feels guilty for what happened to them. It turns their world upside down and he wanted to make it up to her by being her friend. Jin has Yamapi, Ryo and Yuu to talk to, but she doesn’t have a single person to talk to about this mess.

“It’s not.” she shakes her head. “You wouldn’t understand.”

“I wouldn’t understand because you wouldn’t let me.” Jin said as grabbed her arm to face him. “I wanted to be your friend. I wanted to help you get over this mess...”

Takako felt her eyes getting teary again, his words make her wanted to get up, hug him tightly and never let go. “Do you think your girlfriend will allow you to be my friend if she found out the truth?” she asked him.

Jin was taken aback with her question, he doesn’t know how to answer. He’s too afraid to think about how Suki will react about his marriage with Takako.

Judging by the look on his face, Takako already got an answer. “It’s better if I stay away.” she stood up from her seat to exit the room. She can’t stand another minute alone with him because it’s hurting her. “I’ll think of a way to stop this act.” she stated as she stop at the door. “We’ll get a divorce soon, even if that means that I’ll fly back to Las Vegas, I’ll do it. So that we can live our lives with the people we love.” She said and left. The last few words broke her heart, she knows it’s not true for her but that’s the only way she can stop falling in love with him.

She ran to the parking area and cried her heart out, little did she know that parked on the car beside her is Jin’s best friend. Yamapi saw her crying helplessly inside, a voice inside him is asking him to come up to her and comfort her so he gathered up the courage to knock on her window. Takako looked up and he saw her puffy red eyes, she opened the window and calmed herself. “Can I join you?” Yamapi asked and she nodded unlocking the door on the passenger’s side.

Takako doesn’t know why she agreed to talk to him, maybe because he looked concerned and he knows what happened so he understands. “Why are you here?” she asked.

“I have filming to do.” he replied, carefully examining her face. He doesn’t know what made her cry like that but he knows it’s about Jin.

“Aren’t you going to be late?” she said, adjusting the car mirror to look at her face.

“I have a few minutes. I got here early.” he answered. “Why are you crying? Did Jin did something wrong?” he bluntly asked, surprising Takako.

“It’s really messed up. I don’t know what I gotten myself into.” she said, not being to look at Yamapi’s eyes.

“You can talk to us, you know.” Yamapi offered. “If you’re too awkward to talk to him, you can talk to me or Ryo and Yuu. In times like this, you need someone to release all your stresses into and we are the ones you can run to. We understand what happened, we will never judge you.” Yamapi is still feeling guilty towards what happened, not only with Jin but especially with Takako.

She let the tears fall again, she didn’t care if she’s being watch by him, she just needed to cry. “Thank you...” her voice is trembling as she speak.

Yamapi grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug. She hugged him back and cried her eyes out. Being wrapped around by Yamapi’s arms made Takako felt safe, a feeling she wanted to get from Jin but she failed to do so.

“Just cry it all out, it will make you feel better.” Yamapi said while rubbing his hand on her back.

Jin is on his way to the parking lot after finishing the filming, he saw Yamapi standing by his car from a far. “Are you waiting for me?” he asked as soon as he got near him. “Do we have plans tonight?”

“No.” Yamapi replied. “What happened to Takako-kun?” He asked right away.

Jin was shocked to hear his best friend’s question, “She wouldn’t wanna tell me.” he answered.

“She’s having serious problems, Jin. You should at least lend your time to hear her out.” Yamapi told his best friend.

“I’m trying to!” Jin cried. “But she wouldn’t want any of my help, she wants me out.” he sighed as he leaned on his car’s hood. “You saw her?” he wondered how Yamapi knew.

“I arrived here and saw her crying on her car so I talked to her.” Yamapi answered, joining his best friend to lean on the hood. “She didn’t tell me exactly what’s wrong but she just cried in my arms. She seems so helpless and I can’t help but offer my help.”

“Her eyes are red and swollen, the staff thinks we had a big fight and everyone in the studio is awkward around us.” Jin said, getting his phone inside his jeans pocket, he looked disappointed after he takes a look at his phone.

“What’s wrong with you?” Yamapi saw his reaction.

“Suki’s not answering her phone and she wouldn’t reply on my text. I’m getting worried.” he tried calling her again, Yamapi watched his friend.

“Not answering.” Jin stated as he cancel the call. “I better go to her apartment.” he said standing up and getting in the car door.

“What are you going to do with Takako-kun?” Yamapi asked before Jin can enter.

“Maybe you can help me out, she’s opening up to you.” Jin answered.

“You wouldn’t give it all to me, right? You should make her feel that you’re in this with her.”

“That’s what I’m saying but she wouldn’t listen, saying that it’s not easy and I wouldn’t understand.” Jin sighed.

“Well, try harder.” Yamapi poked his best friend’s chest. “I have to go, I’m meeting Keiko-chan. Let’s talk about this again. Soon.” he said as he made his way to his car.

“Sure. I’ll call you.” Jin said and got inside his car.

Jin arrived to Suki’s apartment a few minutes later. He picked up his key and opened the door but it’s locked inside so he ran the doorbell. The door opened and he saw Suki, her eyes are red and it looks like she crying. “What’s wrong? Did something happen? You got me worried, you’re not answering my calls and text messages.” Jin caresses her face but she removed it. She didn’t answer and walked back to her room. “Suki, what’s wrong?” He grabbed her arms. “Did I do something for you to act this way with me?”

“Ask yourself, Jin.” She replied coldly, getting away from his grip.

“Just tell me so we can work this out!” he screamed, letting his frustrations out.

“Takako-kun is your ex-girlfriend and you never told me about it!” she screamed back. “Why do I have to know about it through the papers?!”

Jin closed his eyes as he rests his hands on his waist. It never occurred to him that the media will brought up their past. He forgot about Suki being innocent about his past with Takako and now he’s screwed.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t tell you.” he calmly said. “But it’s not important anymore, Suki. It’s in the past and now we’re just colleagues.” he walked towards her and held both her hands. “You’re my girlfriend now and that’s what’s important.”

“I don’t know, Jin.” she looked straight into his eyes, “What made you keep your relationship with her from me? I have so many questions and I want an honest answer.”

Jin doesn’t know how to explain to her, his past with Takako is something he doesn’t want to talk about, he’s been hurt so much and he doesn’t want to remember it anymore. But if that’s what it takes for Suki to forgive him, then he’ll give it her. “Because she hurts me. Talking about her is hard because I loved her so much but she just left me alone, choosing her career instead of us.” Jin confesses. “After she left I told myself that I’ll forget about her like it never happened.”

“Is that it?” she asked, thinking that there’s more to it.

“Yes.” Jin couldn’t bring up what happened in Las Vegas, he’s too scared. “That’s the truth, Suki.”

“I love you and you know that but I’m scared, Jin.” she took a seat on the edge of her bed.

“What are you scared about?” Jin asked, still holding her hand.

“I’m scared because she’s your ‘girlfriend’. You’re spending a lot of time together and-”

“Shhh.” Jin stopped her and pulled in for a hug. “Don’t worry about that. You’re my girlfriend, my real girlfriend and that’s what matters.”

“I trust you and I believe what you just told me, I just hope that things wouldn’t change between us now that she’s back in your life.”

“I promise, nothing will change.” he whispered in her ears. “I wouldn’t let anything go between us, Suki.”

Suki pulled out from his arms to speak. “When I left to go to America, I already thought that I lose you. Now that we’re back together I wouldn’t want to let you go anymore.” she leaned forward until their foreheads are touching each other. “I don’t want to let you go, I want this to last.” she stated, her voice is slowing breaking.

“I promise that I will not go. I’ll stay by your side.” Jin closed his eyes, thinking about that one thing he’s been keeping from her. One side of him wanted to tell her and be honest but another side is afraid of the turn-out when he tells the truth. “I love you, Suki. Remember that. I would do anything to keep you from getting hurt.” he opened his eyes and saw the tears that are forming in his girlfriend’s eyes, he reached for her lips and they kissed.
