Chapter Five: Secrets
It’s the middle of a very hot and humid Korea summer and the best way to relieve it is a massive pool, some snacks, overflowing drinks and a gathering of some of your closest friends, that’s why Jaejoong is throwing his annual summer pool party at his luxurious penthouse suite.
“Hey...” Boa approached her best friend who’s standing by herself in the balcony. “Are you really gonna ignore me for the rest of your stay here?”
“I can’t believe you plan all of these.” Mika said, shaking her head. “You could have at least told me about it.”
“If I told you then you wouldn’t come with me here.” Boa reasoned out.
“I’m old enough to decide on my own and so Yoochun. It’s our own lives, our own problems, so stop mingling your way into it and let us fix our problem on our own when we’re ready to face each other but for now, it’s yet the right time. We’re not yet ready.” Mika stated and walked her way inside. Jaejoong saw then talking from a far and noticed that Mika is a bit mad and had walked out on Boa. He approached her to ask about what happened.
“It didn’t go well?” Jaejoong asked.
“You know her, she’s all pride.” Boa chuckled. “She’ll get over it, she just needs time. Don’t worry.” she tapped his shoulders.
“Somehow I feel guilty.”
“Why? Because she got mad at us?”
“I haven’t seen her for a long time and I disappointed her by conniving with you.” Jaejoong laughed.
“Don’t be!” Boa said. “Sometimes she can be a bit stubborn but she just needs a little push.” she winked.
“What are you planning again?” Jaejoong raised his eyebrow.
“Yoochun is coming, right?” she asked and he nodded. “Once they see each other in this party they can never hold back.” they exchanged a grin.
“I don’t think so.” Li Yin and Junsu joined them.
“What do you mean?” Boa asked in confusion.
“She went out already.” Li Yin informed them.
“WHAT?!” Boa and Jaejoong shouted in chorus.
“Don’t worry, she said she’ll come back tomorrow morning.” Junsu said.
“It looks like she pulled a fast one on you guys.” Li Yin smiled.
Boa’s phone started ringing, “It’s from Mika.” she told them. “Don’t decide for myself, Boa. Promise me, never tell Yoochun that I’m back.” she reads the message and they all look at each other. “You guys heard it. We don’t know she’s here.” she announces to her friends and they all nodded.

Mika is sitting by the bench along Han River, enjoying the Seoul city lights she hasn’t seen in years. This very place is where she and Yoochun had shared their first kiss and it holds a special place in their hearts.
“I was surprised when I got your text.” A man’s voice disturbed her from her thoughts. “I never thought that you’ll return to this place.” he smiled and joined her on the bench.
“At some point you have to stop running away and start facing your fears.” she looked at him and smiled.
“It’s been six years, do you really think that things are still the same?” he asked her.
“No.” she shakes her head. “I’ve caused a lot of trouble when I left. I lost the man I love, turned my back my friends and got disowned by my own father. Everyone must have hated me.”
“I don’t.” he smiled. “I understand you, Noona.” he squeezed her hand.
“That’s because you’re the only one who knows the truth...” she rested her head on his shoulders. “I’m scared Kyuhyun, scared to face Appa, scared to see my friends whom I abandoned and especially scared to see Yoochun.”
“He had a hard time coping up.” Kyuhyun said. “I don’t know much because I only hang out with Changmin at school and I’m not that close with the rest their family, but I know that he has spend some time in America to forget about you.”
“I really hurted him...” Mika’s tears are forming in her eyes.
“You didn’t mean to, Noona.” Kyuhyun started rubbing her back. “You just have to go...If you didn’t then you’ll probably be married now to some guy you don’t even know. You just did the right thing for the both of you.”
“But I didn’t do the right thing for my family.” she looked at him with her teary eyes and he can’t help but hug her.
“It’s not your fault, Noona. You’re not some payment for Appa’s debts, he can’t control you.” he tried to reassure his sister.
“You and Umma are having a hard time because of me, we lost almost all of our properties, you have to move to a smaller home and started taking jobs to continue studying, it’s been hard for you. Umma will secretly send me some money to Paris while I know that you guys needed it more than I am. I’m a bad daughter and sister, I don’t deserve-”
“No!” he stopped her. “I never blamed you for what happened and neither Umma. Besides, we’re okay now. Appa has started working for the Lee group of companies and I got work too, we’re not as rich as we are before but at least we’re earning enough.”
“Appa is working for LGC?” she asked if she heard it right.
“Yes. Don’t worry. He’s not under Yoochun hyung. He’s a marketing consultant for the telecom company.” he assured her.
“But why would he work there?”
“LGC owns almost everything in this country...” he laughed. “All of their businesses are getting stronger, their net income adds another digit every year, it’s the best place to work for.”
“They’re still at the top, huh?” she smiled.
“And they are getting even richer.” he smiled back. “You should have seen some business news and papers. Your friends are doing a great job taking over their parents’ job. Their grandfather must have been proud.”
“I’m glad they are.” she said as she took a deep breath.
“You haven’t met any of them, yet?” he carefully asked her.
“I did met Jaejoong and Junsu... It was peaceful.” she laughed softly. “They are acting as if nothing happened.”
“It’s good then?”
“With them... I dunno with the others.”

Yoochun arrived at the penthouse and saw everyone was there already.
“You’re late again, Mr. President!” Top shouted when he saw him enter. “Tell me, you’re busy again? Nothing new, Yoochun!”
“It’s not easy running a whole broadcasting company to yourself.” he answered back.
“Go easy on him, Top.” Hyunjoong joined their conversation. “All Yoochun needs is a girl and he’ll stop having late night dates with his laptop in the office.” the two guys burst out laughing.
“Stop it guys!” he laughed too.
“Speaking of girls, do you who’s back, Yoochunnie?” Top said and threw a look at Hyunjoong and they both grinned.
Yoochun’s heart started beating faster, could it be true that Mika is back? he asked himself. “Who?” he asked coolly, covering his anxiousness.
“What are you guys talking about?” Jaejoong overheard them so he interrupted before they tell Yoochun. He’s been wondering how they know that Mika’s back.
“Someone’s back, Jae.” Hyunjoong answered.
“Someone from Yoochun’s past.” Top added.
“Huh?!” Jaejoong acted innocent. “Mika’s not back.” he tried to cover up. He caught Yoochun’s eye but he looked away.
“What?!” Hyunjoong said. “It’s not Mika.”
“If Mika’s back with Boa, you should be the first one to know right?” Top told Jaejoong.
“And I doubt she’ll ever come back.” Hyunjoong said. “She left without notice, she wouldn’t have the guts to show herself to us.”
“Ehem...” Top slightly nudged Hyunjoong and pointed at Yoochun, who’s obviously affected by the topic.
“I’m sorry.” Hyunjoong apologizes. “Anyways, the one who’s back is no other than...”
“Don’t kill us with the suspense, just say it!” Jaejoong couldn’t wait to hear what they have to say.
“Park Ga Hee, your junior high dream girl...”Hyunjoong finally said it.
“And your first love.” Top added.
“Isn’t she so much older than us? When we were in junior high, she’s in her first year in college. She’s probably married now!” Jaejoong said.
“She’s not. She’s actually single.” Top informed. “I can still remember those days when we will sneak around in my room to see her dancing in her room next door. We’re naughty kids back then, huh?” Top laughed.
“She’s our fantasy back then.” Hyunjoong laughed along. “Yoochun’s the luckiest one among us.” he glances at him.
“It’s not like she’s serious about me.” Yoochun shakes his head. “I’m just probably a practice, you know. Plus, it’s so brief I can’t even remember anything anymore.”
“So you actually forgot that she’s your first kiss?” Top said and the two laughed.
“Of course I remember that!” Yoochun laughed. “But that’s the only thing I remember.”
“Well, she can help you remember...” Top started grinning along with Hyunjoong.
“What are you grinning about?” Jaejoong asked.
“I invited her...” Top answered.
“What?!” Jaejoong asked. “It’s my party!”
“She’s my plus one!” Top replied.
“What’s wrong, Jae?” Hyunjoong asked. “Are you jealous that we’re hooking Yoochun with girls? You get all the girls you wanted, you don’t need some hooking up.”
“If you want, Jae, you can have her.” Yoochun said.
“Huh?!” Top and Hyunjoong chorused.
“I don’t need a girlfriend.” Yoochun stated and he walked towards where the drinks is, he saw some familiar face.
“So it’s true, you’re back.” he smiled. “Whoa, it’s been a while, Boa.” he spread his arms for a hug.
She moves towards him and went for a hug, “Yeah, I missed everyone!” she said.
“We missed you too.” Yoochun said after they break away from the hug.

The door bell rang and Jaejoong opened it, “Go Ara?” he’s confused. “Did I accidentally send you a text message?” he’s thinking hard. “Thinking about it, you’re not even in my contact lists...” he wondered as he puts his index finger on the side of his mouth.
“No. I came on my own.” she answered. “I’ve been calling you but you’re not answering so I figured that I’ll drop by here. I didn’t know that you’re having a party but I really need to talk to you.” She feels sorry for crashing the party but she badly needs this.
“Business things?” he asked and she nodded. “You do know that I’m having a party...”
“It’s really urgent... Please?” she begged him. “It will just take ten minutes.”
“Fine.” he agreed. He lets her enter the penthouse and leaded her upstairs to the study room.
“What’s so important that you have to come to my house in the middle of the night while I’m having a party?” Jaejoong said.
“I’ll make this quick.” she said. “I’m having a fashion show the day after tomorrow and everything has been set already except that the venue back out on us in the last minute. So I ran to Yunho to ask him for a venue in one of the hotels, he did found a vacancy but it’s in Jeju. I don’t have the budget to fly my staff and models to the island. That’s why I’m here, asking for your help...” she explained.
“You want me to fly your staff to Jeju for free?” Jaejoong said.
“Sort of...” she felt really embarrassed.
“I just got the position, Ara. I just started two days ago, I can’t be making those things yet, what would my staff think...” Jaejoong shared his side.
“Don’t you guys have a private plane? You can lend it to me...”
“My cousins went to Thailand and they used the plane, they won’t be back until the weekend.”
“Don’t you have any other private planes?” she bites her lower lip, she’s been really embarrassed for being insistent to Jaejoong.
“It’s the only private plane of our family...” Jaejoong answered. “I’m sorry, I can’t help you...” he saw Ara’s disappointed face and somehow he feels sorry for letting her down but it’s his reputation is at stake here he can’t let his grandfather down.
“Okay, then...” she stood up and went to the door, he followed her and accompanies her to the front door.
“I’m sorry, Ara.” Jaejoong said as he opened the front door for her.
“It’s fine...” she said cheerlessly and made her way to the elevator.

“You’ve been surprisingly silent the whole day, what’s wrong?” Junsu asked Donghae who’s sitting by himself in the one of the pool chairs.
“Nothing, so much stuff to in the office, that’s all.” he lied, he’s been thinking about his mystery lady.
“We all are!” Junsu exclaimed. “This is the only chance we can have fun away from the office so enjoy while you can!”
“Yeah, right!” Donghae smiled. “It looks like you’re enjoying Boa’s friend.” he narrowed his eyes.
“What?” Junsu acted innocent. “No! Boa and Jaejoong are too preoccupied with each other so I accompanied her.”
“Fine!” Donghae doesn’t believe him.
