The Beast/fairytale lore (B&tB, a little of this story, a little of that, most of it NOT Disney)/bar

If it should happen that you look up, and chance to see the very large animal that comes down the stairs, standing stiffly upon his hind legs (going down stairs always gave him just a touch of trouble. Not that he would admit it) and wearing a very finely tailored suit, with particular attention to the waistcoat, do not be alarmed. He may be ugly, ( Read more... )

O_O

The little boy staring at him only looks shocked, but on the inside something in his brain is doing flips.

There is a giant walking beast thing ordering cookies from the bar. Whut.

Beast does catch sight of the little boy with the odd-shaped head (a certain sport of late 20th century United States of America pops into mind) and merely holds up the plate of cookies as he lowers himself into the chair.

Perhaps he would like some, mmm?

...Yes, he would like some very much.

He sidles close enough to snag one from the plate and then sits on a nearby chair.

"Thanks, mister!"

"You are quite welcome, little sir."

Grandmother, what a harsh voice you have. Have you been eating nails and consorting with the Devil lately?

But it's only the sound of it. Words through a voicebox not made for speaking, around lips and teeth not made for other than killing or eating. The actual nuance of the words is very soft and polite.

He 'eep's a little, but at least doesn't yell. He's being very brave, right?

And then he takes a bite, because it would be kind of rude to just sit there. It tastes quite good.

"Bar makes good cookies, doesn't she?"

He may look a wee bit shy.

Indeed he is. And the Beast is understanding and does not mind too much.

"Indeed she does. I am most fond of her treats, and she does indulge me so."

Hey, he's dead. Doesn't have to worry about his girlish figure.

Arnold gives him a shy smile. He's nice, at least, and that's the kind of thing that's really important. As his grandparents have tried to impress on him again and again.

"Have you ever had her chocolate chip cookies? They're even better."

Beast would like Arnold's grandparents, most likely.

The great head tilts, musing over the thought.

"I cannot say that I have ever had any kind of these chocolate chip cookies. I have heard of them, but never tried them."

Believe it or not, Arnold's grandparents would probably like Beast. They're not very average.

"Really? They're great!"

Beat.

"I can go get you some, if you want. Sir."

The Narration can only imagine. Arnold's grandmother would probably coo and make him cookies.

"They seem intriguing, for certain."

Beat.

"I think perhaps we could have a little sampling. If you tell Mme Bar that Charles ordered them, I am sure she will be most gracious in providing something."

Watch Arnold put all that little boy energy into action!

"Okay!"

And he hops up and dashes over to the bar. After a few short minutes he returns with a little plate of chocolate chip cookies, Bar's finest.

He holds the plate out solemnly. Cookies...are serious business. "Here you go, sir."
