Has anyone read any of The Witcher books? I bought the first one, expecting it to be all blood and gore, and was surprised to find it was much more than that. This led to me buying the next book The Blood of Elves which I also enjoyed. I plan on reading the rest of the books once I get through my current TBR pile ( Read more... )

I have to say that A Murmuring of Bees, edited by atlinmerrick, is well worth the money. It's a collection of Sherlock/John fics, (or Holmes/ Watson in some cases) all of which have something to do with bees, even if just the tiniest mention of bee-shaped cufflinks. I'm currently around two-thirds of the way through This Other Eden by Ben Elton. This book just... well it frustrates me! He's never heard of the concept show-don't-tell, and the book is chock full of exposition. Added to that he's trying so hard to be funny a la Douglas Adams and it's falling flat, being a poor imitation at best ( Read more... )

Went into Dymocks Books at lunchtime today, to have a look at the children's book selection, and to my very great surprise and delight I found a copy of "Milly Molly Mandy". Instantly I was six years old again, sitting up in the mulberry tree with half a jam sandwich in one hand and the book in the other, and pretending I couldn't hear mum calling ( Read more... )
