Mihara's interview

Nov 27, 2009 20:57

At Feel Young website, there's a short interview with Mitsukazu Mihara about Shigeshoushi. I translated it, I'm really sorry for my grammar errors and if there's something hard to understand or strange. m(_ _)m They graced us with quite big images. I'm putting they in the post the same way it is at the site. This post may be image heavy for slow connections.
If you're going to post it somewhere else, credit me for the translation, please. :P

About the daily life as a cartoonist
Editor: First of all, Mihara's woking tabble and it's around.

Editor: The coloruing material too, of course.

Editor: Is there any material of painting you like the post?

Mihara: I like de markers used to do the lines. Depending on the thickness of lines I'm going to draw, I use many sizes from it (from 0,3 to 0,3).

Editor: For doing the manuscript and black & white pages, wich part do you like the most?

Mihara: I like to put the pen and the screentones.

Editor: And the part you don't like?

Mihara: The storyboard. That's what takes me more time to do.

Plot. It's the stage before doing the storyboards.

Storyboards. That's from the scene Shinjurou do him confession!

About "Shigeshoushi" (The Embalmer)

Editor: The edition 6 cover have great impact usgin purple as it basis. Let's see the original pictures of it.

The designer put together those illustrations to do the design of the cover.

Editor: What do you think about the format it turned?

Mihara: Actually, there was a custom rule for the covers, and the color that was used at the previous edition would be used at the next one too. The plan of Akuta-san from 'note' that I'm always entrusting, of the edition 5 being orange and the edition 6 purple, looked very attractive. I think it's becoming a very good form.

Edition 5 cover

Editor: At every edition, the opening pages are color pages with tools of the embalmer. What do you use to paint it?

Mihara: I use color markers called Copic.

Editor: At the editions 6, news characters appears. The doctor Hane from previous editions entngled fundamentally with Shinjurou and Azuki. And also, the female embalmer Yamane Saya. To you, which character is easy and hard to draw?

Mihara: Shinjurou is the most easy. At first glance, he looks thoughtless, characters with a desne past and dark personality are easy for me to draw.
On the other hand, Azuki and Hane are hard to draw.
They don't have masks, they have the kind of straight personality I admire, but they're hard to draw.

Editor: Is there any place you take care when you're drawig?

Mihara: I always worry about how to show the corpse after the embalming. I'm prone to become the same impression no matter what.

Editor: Between the color images that are published at the magazine, is there one you like the most?

Mihara: At 'embalming 14' at volume 3 and embalming 35 at volume 6 color images. I redraw the color images to black & white when it's recorded at each edition and there's other's color imagens being used in other things, so, actually, I have many colored images at my house.

Editor: The readers who only read it at the compiled volumes are losing to see those bautiful illustrations.

embalming 14. It gots more beautiful each time I see it...! It's pity not being able to show the original.

embalming 35. The person in charge also likes this illustration. When it was published in the magazine, the design was with the lyrics of "Amazin Grace" spreading, it was very beautiful.

Editor: There's something that intrigues me at the edition 6, but you puted one special romance story (that was set as embalming 32 in edition 6). There was many fans waiting for it?

Mihara: I didin't put it until now because of the limit of pages, but that's a story I personally like very much. It's a little different from the usual Shigeshoushi, but I hope everone likes it.

Editor: Thank you very much! Lastly, send a message to your readers.

Mihara: Thanks for always reading my works. From now on, Shigeshoushi will enter in its climax, but there's 2 patterns in my plans for the last chapter. I'm hesitanting about which one I sould develop. I will be hapy if everyones keeps on reading imaginating how the ending will be be.

The inrerview was made at a certain day of november.

Plus: they talked about the 6th edition and about the interview at Feels Young' blog too with two additional images:
