Week 3 of Pilates: The First Fit Ball Class
Crikey. THAT was something. For those of you catching up, I haven't been doing Pilates as a class regularly for at least 3 years now. Although I have been doing some intermittent exercise sessions at home with a video, it just isn't the same. So I was not especially looking forward to a whole hour's worth of work on a ball. No really, I wasn't keen. I know my core strength is pretty much gone, and all that balancing was worrying me.
But fear not, dear friends! I did not fall on my face, or even make a mockery of myself. In fact, I did pretty well for someone who is very out of practice. I kept up with most of the exercises, even if I only did the short version, and my posture and positioning was good enough that the instructor didn't have to adjust me (for the moment, anyway). Go me!
The coolest thing is that while some parts of my body were shouting, "OH MY GOD! MAKE IT STOP!" other bits were saying, "Oooo! I remember this! A few more times and we'll be back in shape!" It's a really odd feeling for me, as I've never been a sporty or "fit" person. Nor have I been very flexible or bendy! So being able to put my legs flat to the floor and have my hands cover the tops of my toes is a pretty massive achievement.
Still, I know I'll be feeling it in the morning. But for now, I feel great!
