Thursday I made a blatant play for good karma and helped up an old lady who fell in her driveway. Sweet old lady. Biggest problem was keeping Jerry Lee from licking her to death. Sure she didn't live this long to have that in her obituary.
Friday was ok, other than having to be at work at 5 am. Finally discovered a decent coffee mix: half hot cocoa, half regular. Take that, Starbucks!
Then my Longhorns got beat by Xavier in the Sweet Sixteen. Dammit. *Sports Geek Moment* They were really flirting with Team of Destiny status. The seniors came though in the clutch all year. Royal Ivey with the game winner against Nebraska, Brian Boddicker's tipped 3 at Missouri and Brandon Mouton's clutch 3 at Texas Tech to force overtimes, to name a few. Finishing 2nd in the Big 12's reg. season and tournament wasn't a bad follow-up to losing their best player ever. And Xavier was a very worthy opponent, with lots of clutch players themselves. On the sore loser side, UT really looked like they were looking ahead to the rematch with Duke, and didn't respect the guys they had to beat first. My boys still should have had a chance, down by 3 with 6 seconds left, when Kenny Taylor gets mugged over the back on a rebound. No foul called, UT's head coach goes ballistic and gets tossed, Mouton is left crying on the bench, game over. Lousy damn way for the season to end.
The next day was good, jobby job-wise. Classy high dollar function. Set-up work was scored by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, who were setting up on-stage. Their lead singer is pretty funny. During the function, this cute blonde at one of my tables was bouncing all over her chair listing to them swing. Note to all: Low cut dress + bouncy blonde in a crowded room = hazardous working conditions. Briefly considered how much more interesting these posts would be if I were, say, a roadie for Motley Crue. Thought better of it. Made enough to give today's function away. Cash on hand…ahh.
Sunday came across this grey wolf and/or fox while walking thru the neighborhood. Looks like the same one Jerry Lee and I ran across last month. Seems an inquisitive but skittish sort. Ran back across the road into the woods when he saw me coming. Got a glimpse of his eyes reflecting through the darkness about 30 yards off while walking past. He was standing amongst this construction rubble, with a golf course fairway just behind him, beach houses, the bayou and the Gulf just beyond that. Oh, for a night vision camera.
Spent most of today dealing with my doctor's office and my insurance company. Not fun. After hours of phone tag, discovered that I'm getting billed 60 bucks because my doctor wasn't a member of this specific insurance plan when his office said that he was. Tried to be diplomatic and offered to split the cost with his secretary, but she is redefining the word obstinant and is determined to squeeze me for every cent of her mistake. “I'm sorry. You can pay a minimum of 10 dollar installments every month.” This song here about sums it up...
