Saw Pride and Prejudice last night. Another one of the better movies of a less-than-good year for them(though the second half has seen a significant improvement). Hannah has already posted a review in the Vinejournal, but contemplating further than she would,
my mother has observed on multiple occasions that were P&P written in the modern day, Mary would likely be the heroine. Therefore it surprises me little that they were much nicer to her than Austen was. There was even one moment, when having spent two long carriages rides to Netherfield and back with her mother and two younger sisters, with Elizabeth and Jane only on the ride back, the minute they get into the house, we see her *run* for the refuge of the pianoforte, that I found myself understanding *exactly* how she felt. And then the piece she plays at Netherfield, we learn she'd spent a week preparing, and her father drags her off before she even finishes it, which is definitely one strong "Ouch!" moment.
