please don't ruin the movie by adding your own soundtrack

sigh...I went to the movies tonight. I saw "High Tension", "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and of course, "Batman Begins".

None of the movies were bad per se, but I was disappointed with "High Tension". I thought that it could have been developped more, the plot was basically given away at the beginning and the "twist" was a complete cliche. If you've seen "Hide and Seek" (the DeNiro movie), then you basically know the plot to this one. Honestly, the only thing keeping me from saying this movie was horrible is the fact that it was a French film (although it was dubbed. geez. i didn't know movies even DID that any more!!) I have a thing for foreign films...as long as they aren't too artsy or metaphorical.

I really enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I thought it was really funny and action-y. The beginning was really slow, but the middle and the end were fantastic. I particularly liked the fight scene in the house. It was knock-down, drag-out but it took WAAAAY too long to get there. Brad and Angelina are super-humanly gorgeous beings....it's so unfair, you know? I hope their relationship crashes and burns. Pretty people don't deserve to be happy.....

Ahem. So Batman Begins was good too. I HATED Katie Holmes in it though. I loved me some 'Creek' back in the day, but her talent is NONEXISTENT in movie format. And I hate that stupid side-smile thing she always does with her mouth. It's annoying. You're an actress--act like you don't do it!

I thought Christian Bale was pretty decent as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I loved the new Alfred and any movie that has Morgan Freeman in it is alright with me. I didn't even realize that that was Gary Oldman (aka Sirius Black) as Not-Yet-Commisionner Gordon! He's such a chameleon! I never recognize him from role to role.

I did like that they chose to feature a different bad guy like Scarecrow instead of just going for The Joker, but I'm looking forward to how they'll portray Joker in the sequel. This might shape up to be a good series. Better than the last that they destroyed. One thing that got on my nerves is how Christian Bale does that thing with his lips. Toby Maguire does it too. I don't know how to explain it, but whenever they talk, their upper lip curls in a most unnatural way. It's annoying.

IMHO, the BEST Batman movie of all time is and will always be BATMAN RETURNS. I love Halle, but she is NO Catwoman! Catwoman will always be Michelle Pfeifer (sp?). I mean, the Penguin, Tim Burton...that movie had the perfect mood, music, plot. It's the best. And I can just hear those strings playing the Catwoman theme. Ugh. I gotta get that on DVD or something.
