That crazy old man was right

Hey guys. I've had a really blah few days, for some reason. I think it's just a combination of family stuff, a nice dose of writer's block and the heat. I'm one of those people who finds it hard to sleep when it's hot so it feels like I haven't had a decent night's rest in a week. Coupled with that, I'm in one of those moods where everyone's triumphs make me feel that my life is pathetic/boring which in turn makes me feel guilty that I'm not happy for them and blah blah blah. Granted, I'm not surprised I'm feeling this way because it's been a pretty lame start to the new year. I think once I have my TAFE placement secured and my trip to Perth (more on that later) is closer I'll feel a bit better. I've never been on a break from school for this long before - I officially finished exams in November - and I don't really know what to do with myself. It's all just stretching on. I need something tangible to do with my time, as well as a few days of decent sleep!

Alright, so, in the spirit of not depressing you guys (not that I'm depressed!), some things I have been doing with my time: last weekend Gladiator was on TV so I watched with mum on our big screen. Kickass movie, you guys, although much more because of Joaquin than Russell. Don't get me wrong, Mr Crowe is amaaaazing in stuff like A Beautiful Mind but he was a bit blah in this. Meanwhile, Joaquin as the power hungry king, and in particular the eternally screwed up dynamic between Commodus and Lucilla, was what carried it for me. It's fascinating to me that the incestual vibes between all three characters didn't cause an outcry, assumedly because the film's setting made it somewhat acceptable. Also, I was thinking while watching Joaq about how much River's death has had to do with his motivations and his performances. It seems sometimes that a part of him is striving to do what River never got a chance to in that he throws himself so deeply into his roles, and we all know how much River's death affected him. Psuedo-evidence: scans of an interview with Nylon Guys. As sinful_caeser puts it, he kind of straddles the line between method actor and crazy person. Fascinating.

Also, I have a new fandom, which must first be mentioned in capslock with an heart because that's how much I love it: NUMBERRRRRS ♥
Firstly, I don't understand why this show isn't bigger; why more people don't pay attention to it. There is not ONE thing this show lacks - it's a procedural crime drama that looks at crime from very different perspectives with this sense of friendship and family between everyone even when the crimes are grisly. One of my favourite things would have to be the reconnection between Charlie and Don that's going on under the surface, the idea that they're just beginning to understand each other again, as well as Charlie in general. I can't get enough of Charlie and the way his mind works, the way David Krumholtz plays him so believeably (not to mention how many equations he'd have to memorize - in a lot of scenes it's clearly him and not a random second unit dude writing those equations, which is really impressive). And Don is like the nicest, most genuine FBI agent on TV who actually cares about what he's doing as well as coming up with his own ideas and not just being the brawn in the street smart/school smart dynamic of this show. And their dad is like the greatest thing ever, LOLLL. love how he just pops up all the time with his insight and his random dates. And finally, Charlie/Amita! I love them so much. I'm actually planning a Charlie/Amita picspam because they're my complete OTP of this show. (Then again, I'm yet to see Larry/Megan, which is sure to be hilarious). I really need to get season two. I'm addicted! Along with that I think I've watched Gilmore Girls S1 about five times now, so I'm waiting for LOST to start up again. I'm so thankful that at least one of my shows got past the writer's strike, otherwise I may very well go nuts when all that's on our screens is Women's Murder Club and Lipstick Jungle. Ahem.

Final pimpage: oxoniensis is collecting prompts for the fifth Porn Battle for the next day and a half-ish. She's particularly after rare fandoms in the spirit of yuletide so chuck in some prompts if you're game.
