And Everything: Ianto's story part ten

Jul 20, 2008 22:59

Here's part ten, things are going to get a bit more angsty before they get better... sorry. After I've finished Ianto's Story I was hoping to write Toshiko's and Gwen's individual stories as well set before and after these, haven't decided yet. I also haven't decided what to call them yet, I'm actually having trouble coming up with a title that fits with the boys stories... so any ideas would be very helpful and full credit would be given. Part nine is here if you missed it and comments are welcome -

Ianto returned home to his flat at eight the following morning; Jack’s confession had shocked him. He had to go away from him and think about how he was feeling. Ianto still wasn’t really sure, it had been Jack and the team that killed Lisa in the end, but knowing that there may have been the chance she could have saved herself. That was what got Ianto. Jack gave her the chance to live even though he knew that in doing he would never have meet Ianto and never have his child.

Did Jack give her that chance because he felt guilty about killing her or because he regretted his relationship with Ianto? What hurt more was the fact that Jack had warned her told her to run but she chose to stay and she chose to get herself captured by those monsters, she chose to die and that made Ianto wonder weather she ever really loved him. Jack had tried to sugar coat it he had said that she wouldn’t leave without him…but Ianto could see through that he knew it was a lie.

He unlocked the door to his flat and pushed it open, “Jack?” he called out they needed to have a very long talk. “He’s not here,” said a voice. It made Ianto jumped then he remembered that the doctor was staying with them. “He left you a note its on the fridge” Ianto turned towards the sound of the doctor’s voice.

The TARDIS door was open and he was sitting on the only seat in the TARDIS reading a newspaper and resting feet on the consul. Evelyn was playing on the floor she was sitting in the middle of a brightly coloured play mat with all her of toys lay out around her. Ianto recognised the mat and some of the toys as ones that Owen and Toshiko had brought her. Ianto moved towards them, “on the fridge?” he asked.

“Yeah” the doctor confirmed without looking up from his paper. “He was worried about you,” he added.

Ianto walked to the fridge and remove the magnet that had held it in place. Unfolded the letter and read it -

Yan,

I think that you might need some more space, that bombshell I dropped last night couldn’t have been easy to hear. I’m sorry, I was scared to tell you but I knew carrying around a secret like that would tear us apart if I didn’t get it off my chest. You’re too important to me… I shouldn’t be telling you this in a letter. I’ve gone to the hub, you should take the day off and get to know your daughter, and I think you’ll agree that she is pretty amazing!

If you ask the doctor nicely he’ll take you anywhere in the universe, have fun and make sure your back by dinner I know what the doctor’s time keeping is like so much sure your back by dinner. Tosh is going to teach how to cook something special; she said that her and Owen have some news. So I figured we would have dinner with them and then I’ll take you somewhere special where we can really talk. That way we’ll already have plenty of babysitters.

Have a great day with your daughter, Jack.

Ianto went back to the TARDIS and popped his head around the corner, “So…” said Ianto stepping into the TARDIS. “Jack said I have the day off.” He moved towards his daughter and sat next to her, he picked up one of her toys. If was a green coloured dog, “I thought I’d take her out for a picnic” he said, “I don’t know what she likes to eat.”

The doctor glanced over his glasses at the dog in Ianto’s hands, “that is a very special toy it changes colour to predict the weather green means its going to rain.” The doctor stood up and moved towards them; “so if we’re going to have a picnic, we’re going to have to pick a sunnier planet” he grinned and clicked his fingers.

The door slammed shut and the doctor was pushing some buttons, apparently he hadn’t noticed Ianto’s less than warm attitude towards him. “Where do you want to go? New earth, Raxacoricofallapatorius, Siralos, Tigella, or oh Voga the whole planet is made of gold. Or Eye of Orion it’s the most beautiful and peaceful planet in the universe or Gidu the sky is pink and yellow, oh but not it’s too windy for a picnic.”

“Wow, I don’t know maybe we could just stay in Wales… or what about Jack’s home planet… what is it called?”

“Boeshane Peninsula, no to sandy for a picnic and I don’t think Jack would want Eveie to go there…too many bad memories for him.”

“Or we could go to your home planet” suggested Ianto standing up and walking around the consul.

“Gallifrey” whispered the doctor tears visible in his eyes. “Its gone the whole world wiped out, now its just dust and rocks that float around its two suns. It was so beautiful”

Ianto was a little shocked by the tears in his eyes, this was a man that Jack described as a god and as he talked about his home planet he almost cried.

“Jack mentioned a planet with a landscape of diamonds… midnight I think it was called”

“Not the place for a picnic x - tonic radiation”

“Perhaps not then… if you are so set on going to another planet you pick, you know better than I do”

“Right first things first” the doctor picked up Evelyn and placed her on the seat and strapped her in. “There safety first.”

“Right then, Kantra now that’s a great place for a picnic warm and tropical” he pressed some buttons and pulled out a lever, span something ball like and away they went.

Ianto had to hold on the railing to prevent him from falling over, Evelyn gigged loudly and clapped her hands. The doctor grinned madly as he hit the TARDIS’ consul. Ianto felt like he was going to be sick and then with an almighty bump that actually knocked Ianto off his feet they landed on an alien planet.

Ianto’s heart was pounding in his chest so loudly that he could barely hear himself think, he un- strapped Evelyn and picked her up. The doctor was already opening the doors and stepping out onto the world beyond.

“What’s the worse that can happen?” Ianto rolled his eyes he had heard Jack tell amazing stories about the doctor that sounded quite frankly dangerous. He hoped that today would be one of the normal days that the doctor had in between the dangerous ones. He stepped out of the TARDIS and on to the planet’s surface. It was beautiful it was just like a tropical rain forest the air was warm and felt amazing against his skin. Evelyn smiled happier in his arms she clearly enjoyed the doctor’s adventures even at this young age. Ianto sighed how was he ever going to win her over when the doctor was his competition, “I guess we need to get some food first,” Ianto said.

“There’s a great restaurant near by just through the forest a bit” the doctor turned to look at Ianto, “so Ianto Jones tell me, why don’t you like me?”

“What?” This took Ianto back as far as he knew he didn’t let on that he was less than happy that the doctor was hanging around. “I don’t know what you mean”

“Look after you left last night we had a long talk and well he thinks that you’re a little jealous of me or our friendship.”

“To tell you the truth… yes I am.” The doctor didn’t respond he just looked at Ianto and waited for him to continue. “You know Jack and now my child in away that I will never can, you know things about Jack that I couldn’t even imagine. Frankly that terrifies me.”

“I can understand that…but Jack and I have never been together in away that you two have. He knows you in away that I will never will and would never want too.” The doctor saw a confused look on Ianto’s face and added, “not that he isn’t incredibly handsome, but all I want is a mate. Jack is the perfect choice for a friend, we’ll both live for a very long time why would we complicate that with sex?” he smiled, “imagine if we did and ended up breaking up? We’d spend eternity avoiding each other.”

Ianto laughed he had a very good point, “come on then doctor show me this restaurant of yours”

Ianto and the doctor laughed as they stepped out of the TARDIS and into Ianto’s living room. The doctor was giving Evelyn a piggyback ride. They had a brilliant day out first breakfast at Kantra and then to the theme park on clom all three of them had enjoyed their selves. Ianto looked at the clock on the wall it was ten past eight, “Jack warned me about your time keeping and we’re still late.” Said Ianto.

The doctor looked around, “Jack was having Owen and Tosh around for dinner wasn’t he?” Ianto nodded to confirm this. “So if we’re late, where is everyone?” Ianto looked around as well there was no sign that Jack had been home at all. No food waiting to be prepared, no coats, no sign that Owen and Toshiko had been there either. Ianto noticed the red light on the answer machine was blinking, “they must be working late.”

“Hey Yan, its Jack” said the machine when Ianto pushed the button, “We might have a problem with dinner tonight… do we have noodles there? Try and let me know before I get home, you know if the doctor hasn’t taken you to the other side of he universe. I hope your having a better day then me, Owen’s just wrapping up my arm.”

“Which would be a lot bloody easier if you would keep still.” Ianto heard Owen’s voice in the background.

“Meet a bit of an nasty alien today and it…” there was a clutter that sound like the phone being dropped.

“Jack are you feeling okay?” asked Owen. Jack screamed it was ear splitting and terrible. “Jack?” said Owen again his voice edged with fear, “oh my god Jack, no don’t Jack” Owen was screaming then there where gun shots, Toshiko and Gwen where screaming as well and the phone went dead.
