I'm home in Kansas. I'm safe. My trip home took 25 hours, thanks to a delay at London Gatwick. The plane was supposed to leave at 10:15, but sat on the tarmac for 2 hours because of "engine problems" or some sort of b.s. So we left at 12:15, causing me to miss my connecting flight from DFW to Kansas City, but somehow I lived. I got into Kansas City at 8:30 instead of 5:30, but no matter. I watched a lot of "Everybody Loves Raymond" on the in-flight movie screen, because the only movie option was "The Perfect Man" with Hilary Duff, which I think would have made me launch into a homicidal fit.

Tons of friends were home Saturday because of Thanksgiving Break, so I ran around frantically trying to see everyone. Katie, discussing meeting up with friends from high school: "I got caught up on the arrests and the engagements." Engaged: Dana Wilson, Ivery Strahm, Ginny Stock. Also, Jennifer Sweetman is dating Coach Bloomquist from the high school. She is 21. He is almost 50. This is creepy. If you're going to date an older man, at least pick someone rich and attractive.

I met up with Miss Katie and observed the GIANT diamond on her left ring finger. We hugged a lot. We also ran errands and talked about boys:
me: "I might have better luck if I didn't keep yelling at my suitors."
katie: "I love you for a lot of things, but tact isn't one of them."

Then I picked up Erin and we went over to Andy's, where he, Zug and Lindsey were watching football and playing Half Life. And hence more hugging, and lots of laughing, and admiring of Andy Pool's amazing huge well-decorated Christmas tree. We talked about how the Pool family does not have any crappy glitter-covered handprint ornaments like our families do. Then Erin and I went to Wal-Mart and laughed at the Hunter Santa ornament where he is wearing a camo jacket and an orange cap. We ate at Applebee's and talked about boys, expressing our deepest wishes for functionality and normalcy in a significant other. Angst is over, kids. I want a happy boy.

I dropped Erin off and headed out to Justin's, where they have erected an ostentatious grape arbor/fountain combo. Again, much hugging and picture taking, accompanied by drinking Dirty Girl Scouts (hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps). I got to see Justin and Kat and Brian, which was fabulous. I hurt my shoulder trying to hug Brian, who I think has grown taller since I left in August. Andy and Zug sat glued to the Notre Dame game, which particularly stressed out Andy, who is a Fighting Irishman himself and had already made hotel reservations for the bowl game in Tempe. We played Catchprase, with Andy incorrectly identifying the capitol of Pennsylvania as "Boise." Photos will be up on Flickr soon.

Went to church with Mom and sister today. Took survey of bank account and have decided I'm going to let Mom highlight my hair at home, instead of getting it done professionally. Have decided to be nice to Mother until next time she does something shitty. Am not anticipating that taking very long. Having a mommy is nice while it lasts. I will be accompanying her to the sonogram on Thursday, where they will see which bits of her are swollen and need to be removed and the like.

I ran into Tessa Henning from grade school in the photo department at Wal-Mart. We joined forces in yelling at the guy behind the counter, who was being a dick. Very strange. I was amazed she recognized me, while several people I went to high school with walked right by me without a second look both yesterday and today. It makes me feel funny that people from high school don't recognize me anymore. I guess I've been away longer than I feel like.
